There wasn't a single article about how bad our retirement was in the Star Telegram in those days, but now we are being made to look like we are fleecing the city. Nice dig on the military there scooter. As ex military you know we also, in your own words, pay taxes and our retirement isn't guaranteed. Want proof? Look at everytime there is a debt ceiling hit, first thing that gets held back is veterans benefits. They also up our medical and have refined the policies so that unless you fit a very small area, you don't get medical coverage any longer for life. And our actual retirement benefits? They're a joke. Vets went without a COLA for 3 years and I think last year we got 1%.

We were offered that long before I was on the force and it got voted down I think. I do believe DeSoto got to opt out of SS though or at one point they did. It is a great plan if you can make it 20-25 years in LE.
