Permanent employees of the City of Fort Worth compose the membership of The Employees' Retirement Fund. Currently, members contribute 8.25 percent of their salary while the city contributes 15.74 percent, with the exception of police officers who contribute 8.73 percent and the city contributes 16.46%.

The contributions are pre-tax on gross income, so in effect I pay 33% of my own retirement, and I pay 100% of my 457b retirement.

The city has a far better retirement than it did in the 80's,90's and early 2000's when the markets were good and peoples 401k plans were profitable. The fact that the economy went to the crapper, and we negotiated for a better retirement makes the PD employees a target for the media. There wasn't a single article about how bad our retirement was in the Star Telegram in those days, but now we are being made to look like we are fleecing the city. The city feeding the Telegram information is one way to make he citizens side with the city council.

I hired when retirement was shitty, and have been through the ups and downs. If you want a good retirement, do what I did.

By the way, check your President's retirement, or any Congressman's. I'm willing to bet those people (as well as military) don't contribute to the system while they are working.

I never once heard 03trubluGT say anything about being guided by the constitution in upholding the law. He only talked about LE doing what they are told to do. This truely scares me. The more LE does what they are told to do, the more common place things like this will become.
