It is the mentality that tax dollars just appear like magic. Out of the sky. These are the people crying when you start talking about budget cuts.

On my ~$275k house in Frisco I pay < $6k a year in property tax. ~2.18%. I rounded. Forgive me. If I was concerned about my property tax burden, I'd live in The Colony in a $150k house and pay 1/2 that.

Don't forget that states with income tax typically also have property tax (albeit much smaller).
Damn, I live in the country so to speak and pay right around 3% in property taxes. $110k @ $3400 yr in taxes..

From what I'm looking at, mine is 1.4%

Property tax information for Delta County, Texas, including average Delta County property tax rates and a property tax calculator.

          However, tax exemption rocks

You really never own anything in the US. Either the government can't still get it our someone's lawyer tries to take it. Either way there is a string still attached.

Property taxes are just a high tech way of saying you are a serf of the government.

You can't own something that can be taken away for not paying the right to have it.

Frisco has a lot of retail and stuff so they get income from sales tax. Also we don't participate in dart... We put the sales tax money into the EDC to bring in more businesses.

Cut everything 20 %. This means all state wages and expenses. So, a third grade math teacher would go from $ 55K to $ 44K. Still overpaid in my opinion. You will never figure out wht to cut, so just cut it ALL.

This. A flat 20% cut (or whatever it takes to balance spending against receipts) and let the individual agencies figure out what/where to cut to meet the budget.

<-------------- Wife is a 7th grade teacher, and you're dead wrong if you think a 3rd grade teacher that does his/her job is overpaid at $55K a year. Underpaid? No, but certainly not overpaid. For real teachers, ones that plan their lessons, that care for the kids, that bring work home each night, that stay late after school to help kids or get ready for the next day, they earn every penny they get. My wife spends over half her summer (supposedly off time) in CE classes either teaching them or attending them to maintain her license. Now PE teachers that just roll a ball out and say, "Ya'll go play for an hour," are a different story.
