Unless you were around in '84 (like me), folks won't remember that Phil Gramm (a newly "reformed" republican from the democrat party) beat the piss out of RP in a senate race primary. So here's a guy who's idea's and philosophy, can't win a senate seat in his own state, but there are those that think he can take on Barry in a national race?
Not really. He had 16% in that primary against a new republican, and that's about what he averaged across the nation in this primary. Scary, huh? Reality can be an evil bitch...

Yes he has. That said, the only time he tried a senate run, he had a reformed dem pimp-slap him by 60 points in the primary. At least Romney was a governor and a hugely successful businessman.
