I think it's only smart to keep a small stash of long storage food and hundreds of bullets if not more. Mostly the food and water. Given a water heater has a decent supply of water I thend to be lax on that.

I do think it's stupid to be prepared for a zombie apocalypse. If zombies ever came out I'd be a zombie hunter. Anyone want to make a zombie hunting TV series with me?!

Wow! That is one of the most profound statements I've ever read on this website...

Our version of prep'ing is not spending 60K on supplies. I feel that if you need 5 years of supplies you're f'ed anyway and it'll be a complete war zone. I never worried about it until I had kids and that created a great deal of concern for me.

We're a 3 month family that we're trying to keep in-house. It's nothing that takes up a great deal of room and we use it and replenish. I do keep a ton of bullets, just in case plus for hunting purposes. Also another reason why I'd like to reload.

We're going to do a few little things, like rain barrels, canning a few things, maybe a garden and chickens. However, those require food/fertilizer...etc to maintain too.

Either way, if something happens that needs more than 3 months - staying in a house without power/water is probably not ideal and an alternate plan is needed.

Also, being close to the DFW area - we're likely f'ed in the event of a nuclear issues...etc. We're prepared, but only to an extent for a reason.

I had never heard the term "prepping" until recently, but I guess that describes how I was raised. I view it as being responsible for myself and family by being prepared for unforseen circumstances. Whether that is protecting against intruders, or just being stocked with materials and tools to repair things around the house. Since I was a child, I have always has aspirations of living as self sufficiently as I can. I have always taken pride in that kind of security. I have never taken it to the extremes that these tv shows do, but my dream has always been to own a large piece of land that can sustain itself and my family if necessary. I've never understood the "if its my time, then oh well", mentality. I feel that goes against thousands of years of human evolution, and I can't imagine very many people thinking that way even just a few hundred years ago.

I've been a prepper ever since I was in boy scouts. The motto "Be Prepared" has stuck with me and ever since I was 14, I had a bug out bag. Prepping doesn't consume my life and I don't spend every penny I get towards that cause. However, I will admit that my prepping has increased over the last couple of years due to everything going on in the world. Yeah, things have always happened and will always happen, the key is not going overboard, not getting into debt to prep, and making it so nothing you buy will go to waste.

Prepping for me is not just for a SHTF event either, for example. In my truck I have a fire extinguisher, road flares, tool kit, first aid kit, straps, jumper cables, fluids, duct tape, bailing wire, and WD40 amongst other things. I am prepared for most anything that can happen on the road.
Annoying people, one post at a time!

Yeah, I don't see the give up attitude either.
