If they helped control the influx of drugs from Mehico then maybe the people would not have the money to purchase the weapons...I dont know but this is stupid. I see alot of Anti_gun people using this as additional fuel for their fire...

Mexico President Felipe Calderon's message to US: 'No more weapons!'

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — President Felipe Calderon on Thursday unveiled a "No More Weapons!" billboard made with crushed firearms and placed near the U.S. border. He urged the United States to stop the flow of weapons into Mexico.

The billboard, which is in English and weighs 3 tons, was placed near an international bridge in Ciudad Juarez and can be seen from the United States.

    'Mexico needs your help'
Calderon said the billboard's letters were made with weapons seized by local, state and federal authorities.

"Dear friends of the United States, Mexico needs your help to stop this terrible violence that we're suffering," Calderon said in English during the unveiling ceremony.

"The best way to do this is to stop the flow of automatic weapons into Mexico," he added.

Before unveiling the billboard, Calderon supervised the destruction of more than 7,500 automatic rifles and handguns at a military base in Ciudad Juarez.

Advertise | AdChoicesAdvertise | AdChoicesAdvertise | AdChoicesCalderon said more than 140,000 weapons have been seized since December 2006, when he launched a crackdown against drug traffickers. More than 47,500 people have been killed since then.

Mexico's 'super labs' send meth pouring across border

One of the cities most affected by the violence is Ciudad Juarez, where more than 9,000 have died in drug violence since 2008.

The state on the border with Texas has seen a spike of violence as the Zetas and the Sinaloa drug cartel fight for control of drug-smuggling routes into the United States.

Meanwhile, U.S. authorities announced Thursday that they have upgraded six miles of border fencing in a remote Arizona ranching town with a taller barrier that will be tougher to breach, in the latest effort to tighten their grip on the isolated stretches of the Mexico border.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said it has replaced outdated panel fencing that carved across the southern reach of Douglas, in the far southeast corner of Arizona, with an 18-foot-tall bollard and steel-mesh fence design.
The move to refurbish the barrier separating Douglas from Agua Prieta in Mexico's northern Sonora state follows an overhaul of 2.8 miles of fencing in Nogales, the largest city on the Arizona-Mexico border, last year.

The revamp in the high plains ranching town comes as arrests of illegal immigrants crossing north over the Mexico border plummeted to 327,577 last year, their lowest levels since 1972 when President Richard Nixon was in the White House.

Factors in the stark decline have included tightened border enforcement, a slowed U.S. economy providing fewer jobs to undocumented workers, and increased drug cartel-related violence in Mexico that has made the journey north more hazardous, according to analysts.

Also Thursday, the country's Attorney General said a federal prosecutor assigned to a northern state had been detained on suspicion of protecting the brutal Zetas drug cartel.

Attorney General Marisela Morales said federal prosecutor Claudia Gonzalez has been sent to prison. She didn't say when Gonzalez was detained or give any other details.

Gonzalez was based in the city of Saltillo, capital of the border state of Coahuila.

Um...it's already been proven the majority of weapons come from OTHER countries, Mr. Calderon.

He has to blame it on a country he knows has organizations that might give a damn.

Shit, why are we giving "automatic" weapons (which to means, the full auto variation) to Mexico when even I can't have one without a bunch of hoops?

I just feel that this is one more can of gas to the fire...they already want to turn everything into California or NY regarding gun laws. They have already removed our right to purchase specific firearms without license or approval. I cannot manufacture my own weapon or else I will never see the light of day again. I cannot carry my weapon without the "mans" permission. I am told that I can only shoot my weapon in certain areas that are "designated" safe...(although stuff still happens, funny).

All of the laws that have been put in place really only accomplish two major things:

            1. They are now able to track who has purchased weapons. (this does nothing regarding weapons in criminals hands nor does it address any issue other than, "we want to know who has what".

            2. They have made it not as much a right but a privilege...which is not what the constitution states. I understand there are "bad guys" around every corner and what not...but that is not an argument considering that $hit still happens...

Anyways, I merely feel this will be more incentive for the elected officials of this nation to propose additional laws to the justice system. One, two, three laws may not pass but if you begin to submit enough, well the odds increase and some are likely to pass.

Everything you say Gtracer is true. I did not really understand all this 3-4 years ago and I can almost promise you that most do not understand it.

It's that slippery slop thing. "Why are you complaining? You still have guns, semi auto...etc." That's why most will think...what they don't understand is I should be able to have any gun I want w/o the government regulating it.

Now, if I misuse that weapon - that's admittedly a different issue.

What is sad is we cannot stop it. The youth that is growing up today is being raised in a society that talks about guns and violence more than the people who perpetrate it.
Society says "don’t put them on the news, that is what they want" so people run to the details, "what happened, how did they die...oh it was a gun?" Then you have the news agencies all vying for the top spot, who was first. "Oh it was a high cap mag" or " military grade". The screen cover on my phone is military grade for crying out loud.

The laws will slowly be imposed unless people continue to fight and educate. When everyone just goes along with it the you might as well help sign off on it too...

Anyways, the only way we can protect our gun rights and the rights of our children is education. Take your son and daughter's out, show them guns, let them shoot. Be there to help them experience the excitement of that first trigger squeeze, hitting that first bulls eye. This way, when we are all old or dead, no longer with a voice of our own; our children will be able to speak up and say "it’s not the gun, it’s the people using them".

I try to do my duty to educate those around me what I have learned. My girlfriend had never even held a gun. She was so scared that she would not even go to the range with me.

I had her sit with me one night while I tore it down to give a good cleaning. She started asking questions and what do you know, she picked out her own Sig at the show the other day. I take every chance I get to talk about gun rights and the rights we have as AMERICAN citizens. I take every chance to talk about how our rights can almost disappear overnight unless we open our eyes. It’s the least I can do considering this country has already done so much for me...
