  • Rand Paul Detained

Seems the TSA has detained him because of an 'abnormality" in the full body scan and he refused to be patted down. Good on him. Evidently, they haven't read this:

US Constitution, Art I Sec 6: Section 6.

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.

I hope him and his father start tearing the TSA apart

Don't you know that the constitution doesn't apply? That's an old dilapidated document that is too old to be useful.

So basically a Congressman can break any law he/she feels like, so long as it's a mr. meaner? There's one part of the Constitution I'm against.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Sounds like the daily politics in this country to me.

Its basically guaranteeing that the district he represents will have a voice in congress.

          He will be tried later.

It protects representatives from being unlawfully detained by the government in such a manner that would prevent them from participating in the legislative process. Without it and with enough control you could control the outcomes of certain votes by having certain "unagreeable" members of congress detained around the time of the vote.

And it doesn't mean he gets off scot-free, his judgment is merely delayed.

Gotcha. And his judgement would be delayed if they actually levied charges before the SOL runs out (unlikely).

Wait...wut? He wasn't detained, just escorted out by local LEOs. How is that not detained??

                UPDATE 11:35 a.m.:

The TSA says Sen. Rand Paul “was not detained at any point” but “triggered an alarm during routine airport screening and refused to complete the screening process in order to resolve the issue.”

“Passengers, as in this case, who refuse to comply with security procedures are denied access to the secure gate area,” the TSA adds. “He was escorted out of the screening area by local law enforcement.”

“The passenger was screened by millimeter wave imaging technology using automated target recognition,” the TSA continues. “This technology uses the same generic image for all passengers to further protect passengers privacy. When an alarm occurs a yellow box indicates where an anomaly is. A targeted pat down is used to resolve the alarm.”

TSA spokesman Michael McCarthy told The Daily Caller that “when an irregularity is found during the TSA screening process, it must be resolved prior to allowing a passenger to proceed to the secure area of the airport. Passengers who refuse to complete the screening process cannot be granted access to the secure area in order to ensure the safety of others traveling.”

I am tired of politicians getting special treatment. I am glad to see they treated him like any other person.

                      a. He wouldn't disagree with you at all.

                      b. There's a very good, constitutionally protected reason as to why they get special treatment in this circumstance.

                        I understand the constitutional protection.

From what I read on ABC, it targeted his knee for inspection, he asked for a rescan and was told no that they were going to do a full body pat down and he refused. He was then pulled aside (detained) and made to miss his flight to DC for the vote this afternoon.

It is currently unclear whether he'll be able to make it on time. The TSA violated the constitution on this one. Very clearly. Wonder if they'll be made to suffer the consequences.
