Romney is actually pretty tough on immigration. He wants to kill the "dream act" and any fast path to citizenship. Gingrich is more lax on that subject, and he's taken a hit for it.

Well then Romney just went up by one point in my book. Although, I still have to say that I'll believe it when I see it. I forgot if I asked this before, but did bush do anything that hindered illegals? Seems like he had about 8 years to get around to it.

Bush did very little. He always wanted the hispanic vote, so he was never that tough on illegals. By the way, it did help him some.

No one has done anything in 50 years to stop illegal immigration. Not any Republican or Democrat. Reagan (and Congress) promised to close the borders after the amnesty act of 1986 cleared 3 million illegals.......but they never did. Both sides want the illegals, only their motivation for wanting them is different.

Actually, Reagan got screwed on that. It was a compromise deal with congress that they renegged on when the vote came up.
