  • Newt vs. mainstream media

Last night was pretty unexpected (or expected depending on how well you know him) and I was thoroughly surprised how he was able to rail CNN for that opening question (which was bs as far as I'm concerned). If this is the best the media has, they might be in trouble. I guess we shall see how this hit piece goes tonight.

"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

If he's in "attack mode", he's in his element.

I don't really have a problem with the question. We should be able to question his morals and his past family history. I do have a problem with it being the very first question asked. There are alot more important topics than ole Newty dropping two wives for some new strange.

It's a valid question, just not a valid question in a presidential debate.

        Two different monsters here....

I think in a weird way, it's going to help Newt's campaign. Because a) it was so over hyped b) it's nothing new, same shit we knew 20 years ago, and c) it's an opportunity for Newt to call out the media and use it as an example. I think a lot of voters will wonder if this is the best the media has against him. Voters may get the feeling that the worst is over, and now they can finally support him now that the dirty laundry is out.

I think that is absolutely the case. Your average American loves a good callout/train wreck moment. He handled himself VERY well on that question alone, and I think probably gained a lot of respect from many. Hell, he gained a little of my respect. I'm still not sold on voting for him. Too many things that conflict with my views. I would vote for him over Romney though. However, isn't he too far behind to even be considered as the GOP candidate?

He isn't, Romney lost Iowa, and he may very well lose to Newt in South Carolina. Right now Newt is polling ahead of Romney in a few of the polls. The media want you to think Romney is winning everything, but truth is he isn't. Still a fair game.

For me I want Santorum over Newt, Newt over Romney, and Romney over Obama.

Same. If Santorum had Newts balls and Romneys' polish, he'd be unstoppable.

I think the guy polishes balls though. That is the impression I have of him.
