Odd question... Makes me wonder what kind of conversationalist YOU are. Do you listen and respond or do you just wait for your turn to talk?? Do those who are smarter and more educated than you in the topic of discussion intimidate you, cause it sounds like BrianC has put a lot of time into this subject. Guy who started the thread said he was not trying to offend anyone, just looking for honest reponses. Seems like BrianC is at the forefront in trying to meet his request as he sees it and even came with references so you can look it up yourself.

Personal attacks in a religeous discussion usually means you got nothin. Perhaps you should be doing more reading and less typing.

    My 2 cents.

It looks like you didn't read a lot of Brian C's other threads that he started. Perhaps you should do more research and less finger pointing.

That's cause you take everything at face value.

If I say "I came out of the house", what do you assume I did?

So you're saying that biblical translation isn't literal? There are plenty of christians that would disagree.

On a side note, you kinda laid low for a while? Why?

Not necessarily that its not literal, but that it doesn't explain everything down to the last detail. Explaining something to a man 5K years ago is a heck of a lot different than explaining it to him today. Back then, if you needed to do something extraordinary in a man's life, you'd simply tell him "Cause its the will of God." And he'd believe it. These days people would figure out how God was going about something even if they we couldn't replicate the process in a lab somewhere. Assuming people were told it was him and believed it was him, of course. If you or I saw the burning bush, we might say:

"Yeah but that fire is actually burning some kind of sticky substance, and that is why its not going out.."

or if we saw Jesus bring someone back from the dead we might say "You know, I saw some kind of light (or electricity maybe?) spring forth out of his hands, so that must have been the actual thing that revived the man." Back then, they just didn't question cause they had no knowledge of the sciences. The most advanced places we've found had indoor plumbing. They wouldn't be able to figure it out at all, and therefore wouldn't waste any time trying to explain how it happened for future generations. Just that it did.

I laid low cause... I don't know. Didn't think there would be any interesting threads in here cause the site was new. If you remember, the old theology corner would go a month at a time without getting a new thread.

I haven't read every post, just the first that started the thread. Doc, sounds like you came to pretty much the same conclusion I did in pretty much the same manner; I read and researched it myself. Not just the bible, but a bunch of other material as well. I'm still very interested in religion as it's a huge part of what has made civilization what it is, but I don't believe much of it. Anyway, lots of interesting stuff out there.
