If everything you say is true, that the railroad can do it and can do it cheaper then why would anyone want to build a pipeline? The answer is fairly easy to come to, either they don't care about economics and want to lose money by building a pipeline or what you are saying isn't true.

On top of oil trains we currently run pipe trains, sand trains, water trains and rock trains all dedicated to the oil companies. My terminal sees 10 of these trains a day and 8 months ago we had none of them.Originally posted by racrguyWhat's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?Originally posted by racrguyVoting is a constitutional right, overthrowing the government isn't.

Face it, the majority of lazy, uneducated, ignorant Americans are just lining up in droves to have Obama tea bag them. Until the average American wakes up and turns off the tv we will see no change. Goodbye Old Girl (America).
The free ride is almost over!

Here is what needs to happen, and I hope it does; First off there needs to be an Alliance formed between the operators/producers/drillers, etc of fossil fuels for North America. Yes, I said it, Union, but in an old school helpful to the industry kind of way. Then they need to get together and call a strike. Drillers need to stop drilling, producers need to stop producing gas/oil. Refineries need to shut down, pipelines need to be shut down. Everything needs to come to a screeching halt and only then will the people realize how much we need these "pipelines" and "frac'ing of wells", "coal mining", and "drilling in the Gulf". This would basically cripple the United States and bring these people to their knees. Then maybe people will not take for granted every time they get on their iPhones and Tweet about how bad the oil companies are, or drive their SUV's to rally's to protest pipelines. Ignorant people drive me nuts.

Why build the pipeline? Because it's faster and not dependent on unions demanding more pay to get the oil to the refinery. Once it's there? Different story. You have a constant supply with a pipeline versus a train you have to wait on to get there and then wait to unload it, if it gets there on time and then wait for them to clear the tracks while you get the next train and so forth.
Pipelines are faster. A LOT faster.I wear a Fez. Fez-es are cool

Then how come we have 1000 locomotives and 30,000 cars sitting in storage. I think that is more than enough to cover a few oil trains. The oil companys have already signed long term deals with the railroad. They project that 60% of all new business in the next 5 years for the railroad will come from the oil companys.
Union excess/wastefulness?
