Or plants, single celled organisms that do not require living inside another being, bacteria. I would say those things are alive, not sentient, but alive. (and I have no problems "killing" any of the things in this list)

    • According to Planned Parenthood, ultrasounds have always been a requirement before performing an abortion. They're bitching about it taking 2 trips to abort. Hell, there's even a waiting period for guns, so WTF?

From the wording, in my opinion, she has right to refuse any of it happening and does NOT have to view it. From my understanding, it was made because aborting doctors could previously deny the mother's wishes of seeing the sonogram, etc. This law requires the information be presented if request, NOT force the information on the mother and her have to look away, stick fingers in ears, etc.

The Texas law, enacted in 2011, requires abortion providers to display the ultrasound images and describe them in detail. Women cannot decline to hear the physician's description of the image unless they qualify for an exception under the statute. Exceptions include if the woman suffered rape or incest or if the fetus has abnormalities.

          • Well TC, there's your exemptions. Rape, incest and abnormalities. You should be on board with this. Wasn't that your issue earlier?

Damn I wish your mother felt as you do.

That said, the law disagrees. If I kill a pregnant woman, Pretty sure I'm getting charged with 2 cases of murder. Wonder if the 'but it's not alive or sentient' theory would hold up. With that thought, you're also believe it's okay to kill those with brain damage or mental retardation?

There have always been sonograms and 24 hour waits since 2004. I'm opposed to scripting the doctors and terrorizing rape victims.

It's not terrorizing rape victims. You said yourself there's an exemption for rape victims.

They still have to have a sonogram and hear the heartbeat. They're allowed to opt out of the graphic details ONLY if they can CERTIFY they've been raped. You know, Roe Vs Wade all started because the State of Texas wanted a woman to certify that she'd been raped....

If they can CERTIFY that they've been raped. What about the women who don't go to the police our of fear or shame?

                      • I think we're talking a very small percentage. Again, if it means nothing to them, there should be no sweat.

                        • If men were the ones that got pregnant, abortions would probably be a rite of passage. Anywho. I'm sure we'll revisit this after the Supreme Court weighs in.

Then they should suck it up. They're killing a child. If they're already experiencing 'fear and shame' enough that they don't want to go to the police to report it, then hearing a heartbeat and seeing a sonogram isn't going to traumatize them too much more if at all.

And tell me TC, what about those who use this for birth control because "it's cool?" Do you really think that this is an infringement? You've already mentioned there's an exemption for every class of person that you had an issue with this traumatizing. Seems like they've taken your argument into account.

The feeling is mutual. And I'm sure she does, but we've never spoken about it.

ANOTHER apples/oranges. Fuck man, why can't you keep comparisons comparable instead of going off on something that isn't remotely similar to what we're talking about.

I figured that card would be pulled out as the argument weakened. I'm not saying "No" to abortion, but it's still a surgical procedure and should be treated as such.
