I disagree with them only on scale. We should have gone in discreetly and staged a few "accidents" of the key leadership to help their cause along, but no Nation building bullshit.
And actually, we put the Shah in power, the Iranians themselves overthrew the Shah and put the Theocratic Govt in power, and didn't like how it turned out.
A lot of good people there, but the same could be said of Nazi Germany.....
They will be held accountable for their Govt. May not be fair, but life ain't fair.
So then I guess you could say the same for the people of the US then if we get bombed.
good first post.
"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler
Every War we have ever fought was fought by dehumanizing the enemy. (Redcoats, Mexicans, Rebels, Spaniards, Huns, Japs, Nazi's, Commies, Charlie, etc)
If their Govt is stupid enough to attack us or an ally of ours, then they declare War, and it is pretty obvious how things will go down from there.
But we're not at war. If it's going to turn out that way then it's going to go through Israel first, so I just don't see the reason for us to be so incredibly preemptively barbaric.
Have you ever talked to someone from Iran about how they were treated by their home country?
Absolutely I have, most importantly with a very good friend of mine and his family, all of whom were smuggled out of the country in the back of a pickup in the late 80's in the midst of the conflict between Iran and Iraq. And he's the one who showed the video at the top to me. His problems have nothing to do with the people and everything to do with the government. Killing everyone in the country solves nothing.

I'll refer to the last part of that post you quoted:
I agree with you. We shouldn't be involved in foreign entanglements anyway, but here we are. Once we made that choice, it becomes a Military action. In such a scenario strategy trumps empathy every time. Otherwise, our men die, and that is unacceptable, or used to be, anyway. (Jab at our bullshit rules of engagement in our current "Kinetic Military Actions")
The problem is, our Govt in its infinite wisdom, decided to disregard the advice of our Founders and meddle in foreign affairs, These are the results of said meddling, hence the reason why the Founders said not to in the first place.

All actions have consequences, even ours.
Looks like I glossed right over that, I can't really disagree.
I also can't help but notice some of the parallels between our mutual disconnections from government to citizens; they're merely a little further along in the progression of "batshit fucking insane".

Actually it does. You have a country full of oil and empty of people

On principle I agree with you wholeheartedly. The disconnect we have is I see the world how it is and you see it as it should be.
If we never took the job of Team America: World Police, your rationale would be to correct one. Unfortunately, we played that hand, and now the game has changed.
Plan A (Founders) is fucked. Now we're on plan.............K, I think, and show no signs of stopping there.
We could knock the chess board off the table and start back from scratch (The Constitution), but that would require some common sense in our Govt , which curiously ain't that common.
The video also didn't show the beheading of people for not believing in Islam, the secret police that grab people that criticize the government and so forth. We should bomb Iran based on that guy's unibrow
Has Iran ever attacked the United States? They have signed the NPT and the IAEA can inspect there sites. Israel has attacked the US (1967 USS Liberty) has not signed the NPT and won't let the IAEA inspect there sites. But yet we sanction Iran and freeze there assets to the tune of billions of dollars. We tell them who can and can't trade with them and what weapons they can have and we wonder why there is distain towards us from the people and the Government. Where is the logic in all this?
Is it a very fucked up place? Certainly. Any Iranian expatriate will tell you so; many of them were driven out in the 80s by the oppressive government. But your response is typical of an American populous that knows absolutely nothing about the country of Iran, only of its government and what reaches through the media.
Hmm....sounds like an all too familiar theme. Hate the Government, not the people.
I wonder how many Iran indigenous people that are on some forum right now conversely making the same statement you are regarding the U.S. Well, that is if they can first find a working proxy server and can tolerate excruciatingly slow choke points the Govt. puts on residential ISP traffic.

It's about power. The only reason we ventured outside our borders in the early 20th century was to acquire and exercise it. Somple as that.
They sided with Germany in wwII, Informally (Grand Mufti, death to Jews, ya know, what the cool kids were doin') We won World War II. We overthrew their Govt and installed the Shah into power to watch over things for us. They overthrew Shah and pissed us off. Take some hostages here, a death to America there, followed by trying to get tech to follow through on their threat, and viola! Sanction City.
But I'm sure there is a more racist explanation for it. e.g. We like keepin' the brown man down
Except Iran repeatedly kicks out the IAEA and refuses them access to sites. Oh, also provides fighters and equipment to kill US troops in Iraq. Can't forget that one
