  • Rarely Seen Images of Tehran, Iran

Blah blah blah on fucking Cat Stevens in the background and some of the commentary, but it's certainly some food for thought. They're still fucking people with lives and families and shit, regardless of the government's actions (a government that we put into power and they have little power to change, not coincidentally).

But as forever_frost says, let's just nuke the whole damned place and get it over with. Because that's how human beings treat each other!

I have good friends who are Irani and they agree with Bush II's stance toward the Iranian Govt. In fact, they were PISSED when the U.S. turned a blind eye and didn't help the protesters here recently.

I disagree with them only on scale. We should have gone in discreetly and staged a few "accidents" of the key leadership to help their cause along, but no Nation building bullshit.

And actually, we put the Shah in power, the Iranians themselves overthrew the Shah and put the Theocratic Govt in power, and didn't like how it turned out.

A lot of good people there, but the same could be said of Nazi Germany.....

They will be held accountable for their Govt. May not be fair, but life ain't fair.

              Both of you are right.

It isn't black and white, but the part of Iran that is "evil and hates America" has control of all of the Military assets, including their Nuclear program. Since this is the case, the shades of gray really don't mean shit.

Yep. Iran isn't human, it's a country full of idiots. Glass it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure

Please do tell what you know about Iran that enables you to guarantee that those images are horse shit representations of what the country is.

Is it a very fucked up place? Certainly. Any Iranian expatriate will tell you so; many of them were driven out in the 80s by the oppressive government. But your response is typical of an American populous that knows absolutely nothing about the country of Iran, only of its government and what reaches through the media.

It's much like North Korea in that we know very little about it, except for the fact that the information is readily available to us and we've got very little interest in actually examining it. It's much easier to rationalize a stance of invasion and annihilation when you dehumanize a group of people.

This is, essentially, the point I wanted to raise. It's not fucking daisies and Swiss fields of love and joy, but it's not a pit of destitute animals. What we know about the place and the favored course of action needs reevaluation; a stance of "level the fucker" is incompatible with the way our world functions and, more importantly, with the values of our founding fathers.

Sorry Bub, that's what happens in War.

Every War we have ever fought was fought by dehumanizing the enemy. (Redcoats, Mexicans, Rebels, Spaniards, Huns, Japs, Nazi's, Commies, Charlie, etc)

If their Govt is stupid enough to attack us or an ally of ours, then they declare War, and it is pretty obvious how things will go down from there.

I agree with you. We shouldn't be involved in foreign entanglements anyway, but here we are. Once we made that choice, it becomes a Military action. In such a scenario strategy trumps empathy every time. Otherwise, our men die, and that is unacceptable, or used to be, anyway. (Jab at our bullshit rules of engagement in our current "Kinetic Military Actions")

Have you ever talked to someone from Iran about how they were treated by their home country?

So then I guess you could say the same for the people of the US then if we get bombed.
