And we responded with a plate of glass, at which point all fight was gone, on their part.

Worked pretty damned well, didn't it?

I am a comm. troop and have deployed in support of enduring freedom. I have gone where the AF has sent me. I am thankful I have not been on the front lines and so is my family.

      • Being a comm troop doesn't make you any less of a warrior, I want to say that up front. But if you haven't seen what our enemy is like face to face, you don't understand what we're fighting.

It took two bombs and a few weeks of reality setting on, but it did work pretty well once it did.

Also saved a lot of American lives. The Emperor of Japan was not going to stop fighting. He had already declared that Japan would fight till the death of all countrymen. The only other option was for us to put boots on the ground in Japan, and we would have lost tens of thousands of troops.

It was estimated to be between 500,000-4,000,000 US casualties and 5,000,000-14,000,000 Japanese casualties.

Outside of it's normal military force, Japan had organized a 15,000,000 man public defense force, that, when the time came, would fight with spears and bows if no other weapons were available.

It's a shame that we haven't have the same "Say, 'What,' again," mentality with subsequent wars.

You would advocate an attack on Saudi Arabia? The Islamic Republic of Iran would like nothing better than for that to be done.

                  • No King, I advocate using that as the ultimate stick. If you think dying for your religion is where it's at, then you should know that your attack carries a heavy price. Namely, that big black rock they pray to in Mecca gets turned into microscopic ash and scattered around the planet.

That would be so fucking badass! As a threat and/or a promise!

That's great and all, but the entire issue with your premise here is that it automatically assumes that all conflicts we engage in are just and warranted.

                        • No, it doesn't. It says if we decide it's worth going to war over, it's worth going to war over. You dont' win hearts and minds, that's never worked. You destroy their spirit, you destroy their population and you give them a constant reminder of what raising arms against us brings like Hiroshima.

That's why I had to give up my political career dreams. i can't be politically correct. Find out what rules they live by and use it against them. They do it to us.

There was just a 10 post back and forth about how it's entirely possible to go to war even if 'we' don't decide.

                              • I know, I read it. It's called the War Powers Act. Allows the president to send in troops up to 90 days without congressional approval in cases of immediate threat.
