And that "Can't make this shit up" picture is fucking HILARIOUS.
As someone Perry actually appointed to an office, I have to agree. Perry is a politician. He can speak to the Tea Party Tuesday and by Friday be passing out orders to innoculate children with vaccines that haven't been tested and growing the state government.

I shouldn't post when I'm drunk, I make redundant statements. But I will say, even when 3 sheets to the wind I still make more sense than some of you do sober.

In my opinion the only ones who could possibly be inhibited is the Muslims who have to face a certain directions on their hands/knees. Otherwise, prayers do not need to be out loud. Just my opinion and oddly, as far as I know you're right. To me, if you believe in prayer no one can possibly take that away from you. Hell, if the PoWs in past and present wars had it - everyone can.

I can't vouch for Christmas celebrations yet since my kids are in school. When I was in school it was celebrated/observed heavily.

It was a valedictorian speech as well if I remember correctly. That is a student and isn't a regulatable speech. She can say whatever she wants up there and I believe the court ended up overturning it when Abbott got involved. It just shows us a glimpse of what is to come. A kid in California also wore a shirt with a cross on it to school and got sent home. That is freedom of speech and religion, and no there were no uniforms at that school.

It was a valedictorian speech. The speech was originally stopped because it was ruled by the court that it gave the appearance of school sponsorship. When it was appealed, the appeals court stated "We are not persuaded that the plaintiffs have shown that they are substantially likely to prevail on the merits, particularity on the issue that individual prayers or other remarks to be given by students at graduation are, in fact, school sponsored." In other words, it was ruled that the speech was not school sponsored and therefore permissible.

Seems to me that the students first amendment rights are being taken into consideration, and defended.

If the court system working as it should is a glimpse of what is to come, then I'm all for it. It would be a nice change of pace.

I can't find any reference to this. I found a reference to students being sent home for wearing an American flag on their t-shirts on cinco de mayo. Those parents, as far as I could find, chose not to pursue legal action in regards to the actions of the school.

It's also terribly relevant that the students sent home were given the option of turning their t-shirts inside out or be sent home, and the mexican-american students were required to put away their mexican flags as well. So, the decision was applied equally to both sides. None of the mexican-american students were reported to have gone home, they just put away their flags.

I don't agree with the school's decision on restricting the displaying of flags, but when they enforced it, they did so to everyone.

If you do find an article about the student being sent home due to having a cross on their shirt, please post it. I'll be more than happy to look into it.
Scientists do not coddle ideas. They crash test them. They run them into a brick wall at 60 miles per hour and then examine the pieces.

If the idea is sound, the pieces will be that of the wall.

How does that make him any different then every other politician out there?

I can't stand what he did concerning the Trans Texas Corridor and couldn't believe that he thought it was a good idea.

On a personal note I have been around him quite a few times in a non political environment and can tell you that he is a really good guy with a sense of humor that would fit in around here.

Didn't say he was different. In fact, the only difference I would wager is that with him, it is so overtly obvious, it's like he has a cartoon thought bubble above his head while he is talking through those enhanced chompers.

Just look at his face. You can see the ignorance in the eyes. You can just look at his body language and gestures and see that he's qualified to run the gas station, but that's about it.

Look at libertarianism. They're pretty much exactly what you're asking for.
