so January 1st everyone remove your FRONT plate only... (carry around this information in your glove box though so when you get pulled over you can prove you are with in your legal rights (cops love smart asses by the way so be 100% legit)... then when they revisit the issue maybe they will see that front plates didn't make much difference anyway.

isn't there a way to be put on some emailing list to get updates about this??? I though I did that for either the front plate or lane splitting a while back...

I probably could have worded my post better, but that was my first thought on the subject.

I like this a hell of a lot better than everyone yanking both plates just because of a clerical error. Maybe a little moderation will go a long way versus a radical movement to an extreme case.

          Damn, for real?

I bet they still pull you over and cite you for lack of front plate, regardless of this little hick-up.

We need a resident LEO and attorney to comment on this subject matter.

I'm sure there will be plenty of cops out trying to write tickets for it even though they can't. They tend to do that when they get their feelings hurt.

Anyway, I'm all for having a back plate. But the front needs to disappear and so does the stupid registration sticker and the whole state inspection program along with it. All of those are huge wastes of time and energy.

Agreed, especially on the registration stickers/front plate.

It appears this subject matter is being debated in the other thread on the Back Porch.

I got one of these and have a court date set up for it, what are the chances of getting this dismissed? I had my plate with me at the time but it was on my floor board, cop also issued me a speeding ticket at the time but I was too pissed to acknowledge the plate shit he put on there.

There is a catch all statute in the Traffic Code that states penalties for those offenses not specifically listed in statute.

So, while the statute itself does not call for a penalty, it's covered elsewhere in the Code.

I don't have the gumption to look it up now, I'll have to get ahold of a book when I get to work Saturday.

Its still illegal, there just isn't a penalty, if I read it correctly.

That's the way I read it, too.

That's the impression I got. Like the removal of penalty for failure to identify yourself as CHL to police. They may not be able to enforce it specifically, but that doesn't mean they can't or won't fuck with you over it.

So you're saying you need to raise money for your kids' Christmas with more stupid fines and tickets? I kid, I kid!

I started LEO-ing when the registration stickers went on the back plate. The problem was when you had a couple of years worth of build up, you could scrape off the stickers and put them on your car (if your car was expired). Now you have to run the plate from behind to tell if the plate is valid.

The good thing about having it in the windshield is that it's harder to steal, and very difficult to coutnerfiet. An officer can now watch oncoming traffic and check inspection and registration at the same time. Registration being out is a VERY good indication of having no insurance (since you aren't supposed to get registered w/o insurance), so I like it being in the windshield.

I'll agree that the inspection gets on my nerves at times, but could you imagine the quality of vehicles on the road if there were no inspection???? It's bad enough as it is.
