Some of us take pledges or oaths pretty seriously. I know I do with the Pledge of Allegiance, my Oath of Enlistment, and my Oath of Office.
Yeah, I agree. Reciting a speech related to Mexican Independence or something like that would've been acceptable, not an oath of allegiance to another country.

I can see this point if you have little to no national pride. But pledging allegiance to another country is something I won't do...no matter the language.

Then again, my word and integrity mean a lot to me. Maybe not so much for you.

I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and was one of like 6 white kids in my elementary school. No one EVER asked or made me pledge allegiance to the mexican flag, that teacher needs to be fired IMMEDIATLEY!

I can understand learing other cultures and maybe even reading about their pledge, but you dont make a child pledge their allegiance to another country!

Why would you do Mexican shit in Spanish class? It's not Mexican class. There's no reason to explore Mexican culture, apart from Texas's proximity to Mexico. First year teacher, FTL.

Every Spanish class I was in looked at the cultures of all the Spanish-speaking countries as well as the language itself.

when i took spanish class in high school the emphasis was on the study of the language, not the culture.

props to this kid. there is hope for at least some of the younger generation.

                        ^^ Cents, you has them.

All state-mandated "Spanish' classes I breezed through were not directed toward Spanish culture. We had Cinco De Mayo parties every year (Mexican independence) ...Wtf
