  • MLK dedication...

After watching the dedication and seeing everyone join hands and sing "we shall overcome, " would MLK be truly proud of where the black race has come since the 60's? Is a song like that really necessary in present day?

Well, in his day, they had significant obstacles between them and the road to success, placed there by tradition, history, and us honkys.
These days, the only obstacle to black people is black people. I truly believe that if Dr. King could see what became of all that he worked so hard for, he'd be thoroughly pissed.
Black America has gone from being oppressed and just wanting a fair shake, to a nation of unabashed racists who squander every opportunity for (honest) success that comes their way.
There are, of course, exceptions; but they are few and far between.
"Oh, but we have a black president!" Um, no. Bryant Gumbel is blacker than O'bama.
"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Exactly how I feel, which is why I wonder what is it that needs to be overcome?

If Obama was a real black man, he would've legalized marijuana before day 10 of his presidency, just sayin'.

Considering the company King threw in with *coughJacksoncough* I would say he would be milking it like a holstein.
