The response now to bad service is a low tip and the server is the one that feels it the most; as they should. Force a 25% tip to my ticket and bad services, the manager is going to hear about it and I am not going to pay for the meal at all. I can see this being thrown back in their face over time.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

You already pay a pretty steep % on top of your restaurant bill in SF to fund the employee's healthcare and now they want more? Fuck them.

Wharz Jody? In this economy, it might just keep us from going out to eat at all. Then what?

He's got a pregnant lady at home. It's either cooking for her or take out.

As a matter of fact, I think she's due next month.

I'd like to have his opinion on this, since he's living there. It seems everything is already so damn expensive just to exist there.

Waiting tables sucks. If they want to tack on a 25% grat then fine, do it. The business owner has a right to do that just like you have a right to not eat there. Now, if they want to make that mandatory for ALL restaurants and take the choice OUT of the hands of the business owner then that is a problem.

My standard is 25% for good service. For above and beyond I might go as high as 35%. For crappy service I have been known to leave nickles or just leave my food on the table and walk out.

They better be REAL fucking good waiters to get a 25% tip... On average I do about 15%, which is normally $6-8

This is even more of a reason to eat at home then to go out and eat.

As a former waiter, I strongly disagree with this. Like others have said, the servers will become lazy and tipping will be yet another entitlement. There will be no motivation to be friendly, prompt, etc. All the places I worked, I had the choice to add grat to a tab on parties of 8 or more. And in most cases, I came out better off not adding the 18% gratuity, so most of the time, I didn't.

I did, however, always add gratuiity on middle Easterners, african Americans, and parties of 8 or more that were paying on separate checks.

I see this failing with an epic backfire. With today's bad economy and eating out seen as a luxury more people will choose to eat at home when faced with a mandatory 25% tip. I know i dammed sure would.

                              1. If you wanted to guarantee "proper service" why would that transaction not take place BEFORE the serving of the meal?

                              2. If that were the case it would be TEPS.

                              Insure
Insure is the root word for insurance and hence, can be done to a person, place, or thing. However, you must understand that it is reserved for limiting financial liability. This financial liability is most commonly achieved by obtaining an insurance policy
                              Ensure
Ensuring is something you do to guarantee the occurrence of an event or condition. This is taken up as a warranty that something is going to happen for which you will double check.

That's fine and dandy, but in the service industry, twhat he posted is how it's conveyed to the wait staff. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying.
