I can say my mom has been actively looking for a job for 2 years. Everytime I talk to her she is going on interviews, working on temp jobs, etc. Maybe she needs to lower her standards, but I will give her credit for trying as much as she can.

I had to lower my standards too. When I was laid off from Nokia back in 2006 I only had to accept job offers that were $24/hr or higher. That lasted a couple months, then I went crazy doing nothing.

Good for her! At least she is trying and not just freeloading. I hope she finds what she needs.

After so long with negative results, maybe a change of approach, resume organization or just what she needs to look for is in order.

Settling for less is not always losing, though. It might open new avenues.

I went from building 8 houses a year to about 5. People just don't realize it. A lot of builders that were out here 2 years ago are now gone.

Lose and Loose are often used incorrectly.

Lose refers to loss. I can lose my keys, or lose a game of tennis, or lose my mind; or lose potential revenue. The word "loser" is also slang for a misfit, especially someone who has seldom been successful at a job, personal relationship, etc.

Loose, on the other hand, is the opposite of tight. For example, the screws were loose so the chair fell apart when Humpty Dumpty sat on it. The word "Loose" is sometimes also used to denote moral decadence (as in loose character).

I was laid off in 5/2002 and was out for right at 7 months. When I was finally given the opportunity to work, I took a 60% pay cut but I was grateful to have a job. Screw sitting around for 2 years on the government nipple.
