Germany role is like the taxpayers here in the U.S., with the PIIGS (especially Greece) being the welfare recipients.

They just need to let them go. The European banks are going to take a big hit, something like 50% on their Greece holdings. They'll have to write that shit down. They aren't as well capitalized as US banks but it isn't like this is a huge amount of debt. American bank exposure to Greece is minimal, they have had over a year to divest or hedge out of it.

Life will go on and everything will be fine as long as you aren't a Greek hairdresser making $75K a year and retiring at age 50. If that is you, you are about to get fucked like the neighbor's cat.
