Sure you're going to have your stored up supplies, but those winters are going to drain them rapidly. The best places for easy survival would be all those little islands and costal regions down by the equator. Very easy to gather fish and crab and fruit with minimal work. No winters there, and easy food resupply.
Oh, I don't know. The American Indians made it quite well with winters and if things go badly and you run out, there's always banditry. Not that I will resort to that until things run out completely, but if you live where your bug out location is, you can stockpile and store and set it up.

I know it's a big vague. I'm just talking about some place where you can survive easily. Raise livestock, grow produce, have access to water, preferably mild winters. The closer to DFW the better, meaning, sure somewhere in Idaho would be great, but if something wild were to happen I would rather it be within a few hours drive, or heaven forbid, a few days walking distance, rather than 1500 miles away.
You're not asking for much. It can be had within an hour of the Metroplex and fairly cheap.

You and me are a far cry from those indians. They lived the survival every day of their lives. We'd do well to make it easy on ourselves.

Oh, I don't disagree. I'm saying it's possible to survive if you're willing to do things that are uncivilized.

But then you'd just run out of fuel. Best bet would be to convert it to propane and buy a tanker truck full and stash it somewhere. Its cheaper and it wouldn't go bad. Even with the proper additives, any stored gasoline will go bad after a year. Propane takes much longer. I can't be certain, but IIRC its something like 10 years for propane to go bad in its tank. Can't remember though, maybe someone can help me out. And when you do the conversion, you can go ahead and optimize the engine for propane so it would get the same fuel economy as it would if you were running gasoline in it.

Also you could stock up on tires, points, and any other maintenance materials. This way your vehicle could go the 10 years that the fuel will last. After that... well I guess we better hope shit got fixed or own some horses. Man that would suck. Go from a gas powered vehicle to a fucking horse.

I think if something goes bad, people will die off pretty quickly and then gas will be easier to come by than you think.

I think you're correct. My hope (odd choice of a word) would be that any situation requiring a bug out would be worldwide. Otherwise, we'll be facing external attacks almost immediately.

I am prepping to bunker down in the house. Once I have my stocks I am going to expand to finding a place to call a bug out location. Having a location and no stocks will not net you much.

We bought our house in an area far enough away from the city life to make us a very bad choice as a target to murrauders. We are still not as remote as I would have liked but I had to find a median between defensable location and quality of life in the meantime with the funds I had available.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

You're still in the blast zone of a major metropolitan area.

I'm far enough from most major areas to be outside of blast zones and anyone who does know where I am, knows that I have no problem with shooting them, from the FedEx guy to the county sheriff.

I think a lot of people would perish based simply on the fact that they expect the government to help them and the belief that others can't do what is needed to survive - whatever that may look like.

New Orleans versus Ohio is a good example of that. When Ohio had floods, they didn't wait for FEMA, they helped put their own communities back together

Many of you are hoping for a best worst case scenario. You are assuming that you will be at your predetermined base camp, have more then enough supplies, ammo, food and general survival gear. Many of you are leaving the Human Factor out of your equation. On any given day you most likely have the upper hand on any invader to your property but what you are failing to realize is that you will have about 10-20 people trying to rob you for everything you have. People who you thought were your family and friends will now become your foe and the list goes on and on. Survival of the fittest. I hope that I am wrong and that none of this ever happens but like said before preparation is your best bet. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
