Where did you hear this from? A news source or through the grapevine?

I was wondering why it was up almost 6% earlier this morning.

As to the million different scenarios you mentioned, are all of those good or is there any bad in there?

It's the first headline for IR on yahoo finance.

Most people I talk to have nothing but good things to say about you, but you sure come across as a condescending prick. Do you have an inferiority complex you've attempted to overcome through overachievement? Or were you fondled as a child?

You and slow99 should date. You both have passive aggressiveness down pat.

Weird. My two sites I monitor aren't showing it......

I just realized something too about the name Ingersoll Rand that I have overlooked. I am excited and anxious to say the least.

          Here is one I saw:
Shares of IR traded higher by 5.42% or $1.89/share to $36.78. Ingersoll-Rand Plc is trading at a price to book ratio of 1.39. The PEG is 0.7...

          Edit: another

Yeah, I saw that on google.com/finance but it just said it was a takeover candidate, nothing referencing UTC.

            *edit: second link explains.

One of the other buyout possibilities is Rockwell Collins, it appears to be the lead horse in this race.

If someone knows and speaks out about it/buy or sells, is that considered insider trading?

As long as the information is public, it is not insider trading.

The vast majority of the time, you want to own the target and short the acquirer. That's exactly what an event driven merger arbitrage hedge fund is ... Hell it's its own class. Macro news is driving markets right now, long beta ahead of good macro news, short beta ahead of bad macro news.

Oh well it was Goodrich and not IR. Maybe next time!

IR is starting to be where it should be in relation to the rest of the market and the other industrials.
Sorry bringing this up yet again.

unrealized gains/loss are not reported to the IRS until they are REALIZED, correct? So if I hold off on selling anything I currently own until January 1, 2012, I will not be subjected to this tax rate on 2011's return, correct?

I owe all of you a drink!
