  • Exxon-Mobile addresses US motorists on fuel prices

This is a great article which explains gas prices in a very articulate and simple fashion. This is the kind of information our president and administration attempts to censor.
"When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury." -Alexander Fraser Tytler

That article is almost spot on, and what I've been saying for years. It's long been known (to anyone with enough concern to find it out) that more $ goes to the govt than they make on a gallon of gas. And population is up, which means demand is up, which is why they post record profits. Move more units, make more profit. It's simple. But people still want to flip out when they post record profits.

One thing I vehemently disagree with in that article, is the crude oil price. 4+ years ago, when crude went up, gas went up. The last 3ish years, they don't appear to be tied together at all. We've had $80-90/barrell oil how many times in the last 3 years? And how many times in the last 3 years has gas been under $3/gallon? None. So while that's a good read, they are still lying about some of it.

It's no secret that my wife works for an oil refinery. The demands that the gov't puts on them is incredible. Constant safety inspections (which means "shut-downs"), seasonal additives (not including the joke of ethanol), and countless other chinese fire-drills they pound them with. What they've done with the de-sulfurization of diesel is a disgrace, and caused a huge increase in the refining cost of it, which translates the same at the pump. Do they make money? Fuckin' aye right. My point is that they still have all those hassles whether crude is $60 or $120. It's one reason your analysis is correct about the crude/gasoline price differential.

You're right. The truth is the government is blackmailing the industry. You make more money? We want 50% more of your money. Why did you increase your products cost 50%? You can't do that!

I don't doubt that one bit.

just because oil is 85 90 a barrel doesn't mean that is what refineries are paying. Brent is way above 100. You will never see under 3 again. Much much higher prices in the future imo

According to the article that is what the refineries are paying. If Exxon doesn't produce the oil, then they have to pay current market price for that oil in order to refine it. Did you read the article?

People who aren't in the industry will try to demonize the oil companies forever. Nothing new. No one will ever change their mind, not even statistics and facts unfortunately.

I'm curious how many people will have moved out of this country by 2012 to chase jobs.

Dealing with mining, O&G, OTR trucking, and so on I'm seeing a metric shit ton of garbage legislation that are spreading the collective assholes of small businesses and jamming a giant government cock balls deep into the poor bleeding fuckhole of an individual just trying to survive and losing his willpower to fight.

Not sure what crappy legislation your talking about but utilizing American resources is a good thing. Anything pertaining to that I support.
