Originally posted by Hell-Bent SS View PostYou might have a different look at things. For example I just left a job where a non-union company came in and did all kinds of wrong things, we then had to fix everything. In doing so we had to cut out a bunch of pipe and welds and guess what we found all kinds of crap left in the system (levels, tape measure, and a 24" pipe wrench) is that ok for them to do that??
Example: Working for Brown and Root at Comanche Peak, if you dropped something from height one time (tape measure, wrench, etc) you were fired on the spot due to safety reasons, the union workers, it was three times. I had to dodge shit all day dropped by union workers, it happened seldom with non-union workers.

Being in a union just means we take a little more pride in our work...If that wasn't true then how come we go around fixing the non-union stuff??
Your crazy as hell if you don't think we will get fired, happens all the time in my trade.Im calling bullshit on the statement you said about dropping things because we both know that on a job site the general contractor sets the rules for stupid things like that. Sounds like Brown and root made different rules for there workers, and they don't care if they run you off cause they got 10 more mexicans waiting for the job. Atleast my crappy Union is putting food on American plates and not just hiring people that are illegals so the company makes more money.
BTW if all of you are such hard working non-union people then how come you are on here all dam day? Are you sure that your not the fat lazy union people you keep talking about?Or is it ok for you to screw your company out of there time, because only union people do that.

If you fail to see my point, allow me to explain. If you are in fact... Lets say 50% higher efficiency than your non-union counterparts, then your employer would only require half as many employees, correct? If that's the case, why do unions use non-union workforce figures in contract bargaining? Why do they refuse to allow lower workforces if you do in fact work harder and at higher efficiencies? If unions were to make a conclusive case they were lets say 20% more efficient, they could make an honest case to accept higher pay rates at the cost of a reduction of workforce - but they do not do this. That is where they take advantage of corporations. It is very unfortunate Hell-Bent that I've personally found most people most versed in union economics are non-union employees.Last edited by CJ; 08-31-2011, 02:11 PM."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

I can be as fat and lazy as I want considering I only do service work, give bids and subcontract when I choose.

I said that a general contractor sets certain rules for a job,and some companies can make there own standard. Just like in the case you talked about it didn't have any thing to do with the union it had to do with the contractor.
I never said that they get around certain licenses, but I did say that they dont always use a LEGAL person.I'm so sorry that I have a problem with companies using ILLEGALS to do there work. I wish it was harder for a company to hire them, I just believe our country has a big issue with this.
I'm not asshurt at all just jelous, maybe I should go non-union

Tell me, if you take pride in your work does that mean you feel you're worth more than non-union employees? Are you implying that since you believe you work harder that you must form a union to collectively bargain for higher wages?

You sit there and say that Im totally against helping out the company and we screw them to death.Little do you know that every member out of my hall (around 1200) puts in $10 a week into a fund that the compaines use to help them bid against a non-union company to help get more work for us and them.If we sat around and didn't work we would both would be sittin at the house.

So everyone that does plumbing is legal right?? I mean there can't be a master plumber there and everyone work off him?? We both know that there is somebody there at all times checking to see if everyone has a license right??
and yes I'm a pipefitter, I worked years ago as a plumber.
I liked welding and fitting more so went in that direction. My union hall does hvac, pipefitting and plumbing
