Yea...because the Republicans came up with the social security scam, it wasn't FDR.

As for the original topic of this thread, it is alarmist bullshit. He is trying to get the old fucks that cling to the Republican party to light up the switchboard at the capitol building to make sure they get their checks in the mail.

Fact is, the old people let the government spend their social security contributions years ago. Before most of us on this board were born. They are now spending the money that my three year old son hasn't even earned yet. So, while I have to say that this country should be able to take care of its old, disabled and children, fuck social security it shouldn't get any more priority now than it ever has. Where was the priority forty years ago when government was wasting the money?

FWIW I think SS is a good idea. That's just me. Seems like a LOT of people are too dumb to control the entirety of their retirement planning. Without a forced retirement contribution/benefit lots of people would be fucked. I don't want to get shot in the crossfire of a geriatric bank robbery.

Those who paid in for a lifetime should have more priority than the able bodied on welfare, food stamps, lonestar card, etc.

None of that matters, the government doesn't have the money to pay without stealing it from us and by extension, today's children. It is a generational transfer of wealth that should have never been put in place. It is flawed from the beginning, instead of letting some old guy starve, future generations should be made to suffer? Those old people should be able to use a ballot box to steal from the pockets of children in the name of a "retirement"? Fuck that nonsense. These people had their chance to change government and they didn't do it. The government spent their money they paid in. I have no sympathy and they can take a pay cut just like everyone else if that is what it comes down to. That is what happens when you don't make sure your money is managed properly, whether you do it or the government does it, you get fucked.

Oh and welfare and food stamps equal pennies compared to SS and medicare. Not insignificant but not near as much. Here is a link, welfare, unemployment and other "mandatory" spending is about 16%. I have seen another chart like this that broke out welfare and food stamps and I want to say it was something like 6 or 7%. Enough to worry about but not crazy like SS...

Government doesn't fucking create jobs. Every dollar they spend is taken out of the economy, thereby killing jobs.

The best thing they could possibly do is get the fuck out of the way.

Was passed for show? They did what they were sent to do. And federal government is supposed to do very little. 18 things as a matter of fact. They also stabilized the tax code for another year which helped businesses.

Wonder if Obama is going to try to raise taxes while he runs again in 2012

The best thing they could do is create certainty in the business world. These fucks have never run anything that required turning a profit though so they don't understand that.

You don't have to ease anything, just make sure the business owner doesn't have to worry about waking up in the morning, picking up the Wall Street Journal and seeing his profit being destroyed.

This isn't fucking rocket science. Look at what these idiots have done to the small banks.
