He's abandoned the republican line of big spending cuts and no tax increase and is now going for smaller cuts. I don't see the future as being too rosy for boehner.

He'll probably have to go for smaller cuts with no tax breaks. We've got a big-spending President and Senate in office.

This is going to sound completely anti-conservative, but why not raise taxes for 2 years. Tell the businesses to suck it up like the rest of us and that after those two years, tax rates will be back to their current levels for no less than 10 years. At the same time, cut spending across the board. Seems to me to be a win-win situation. Then again, if they did this three years ago when this shitstorm started, maybe we'd be in a better place now.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

My problem with Washington raising taxes is - where does it end? You and i both know that if they raise taxes they'll spend the additional money on some boondoggle or social giveaway program and within a couple of years they will be "running short" yet again. It may be a revenue problem but IMO it's mostly a spending problem.

I'm also a realist. Two trillion is better than nothing. What scares me about raising taxes on business right now, is they will let folks go in order to cover rising costs'. One thing this economy has done, is let businessmen know they can get a lot more work done with the same number of people. Know one works harder than a man that fears for his job.

It IS a spending problem. It's time to cut up the credit cards and cut off the allowance.

The gubment spends on average, 6% more than it takes in from taxes. Revinu isn't the issue, spending is.

Oh it's a spending problem, without a doubt. I'm just putting forth the idea of raising taxes for a couple of years while drastically cutting spending in order to try and take a big (small?) chunk out of the debt.

Boehner is a pussy! The house could have and should have passed what they felt was right and made the democrats in the senate or Obama cast it down. Voters will seek Boehner's head on a stick. He's a snake and should be dealt with accordingly. These dumb bastards have zero clue about the situation we're in and are too busy seeking re-election.

They can't be trusted with one more red cent. They really can't. That would be like giving an alcoholic a beer. If anything we should be staging a tax protest to cut as much funding from the federal government as we possibly can. Just so these pricks might finally get the message.

The issue is jobs. If we cut taxes for corporations and take out the uncertainty in the market, we create jobs. More jobs equals more people paying taxes, more people paying taxes equals the more revenue the dems want (14 million out of work x's what each would pay in taxes if they had a job). Add in some entitlement cuts and you get the best of both worlds.

"GOP Senate Leader Mitch McConnell tells Fox News that cutting $4 trillion over the next decade is likely off the table, claiming Democrats are pushing too hard for tax increases."

AKA we're not gonna do a fucking thing?!

Because they will never cut it back. Once taxes are up to "fix the problem", they will keep them there and spend the extra income because that is how government works

it is a spending problem, but our government spends money far in advance, to solve the problem in the short term you need revenue. lets end some of these BS government subsidies, do we really need to give tax payer money to oil companies as an incentive to make money?
