  • Will the issues in the next election be of any importance?

Two wars, lobbing bombs without congressional approval a couple other places, ever growing gov't, ever shrinking rights, rising energy prices, sluggish economy, weakening dollar, attempts by foreign nations to threaten our currency (chiasso smuggling case, wasn't even really in the news, act of war IMO) insane deficits/debt, high unemployment, emerging markets as economic threats, largely ignored socialization of the banks that helped caused this fiasco on the backs of the US taxpayer, role of the Federal Reserve in the financial mess, hundreds of BILLIONS unaccounted for in TARP, and on and on.

I think the normalcy bias is keeping people from seeing that this nation is sliding to the edge.

What are you and I going to make the issues? Are we going to let them fool us with misdirection and make it about family values, gays, or some hope/change vaguery that are far from being of dire importance???

We are the people we've been waiting for. So what are we going to do?

I was having this discussion with my chick, if I were running I would put zero focus on social issues unless they directly related to financial matters. When financial ruin is on the brink all of the little pissy issues mean nothing in the long run. Arguing about about anything other than restoring liberties, correcting the financial path of destruction we're on, cutting spending and getting out of the way so that prosperity can once again thrive are the only things that matter.

Other than that, I would silence that little fuck that runs Iran.

He's useful and to a degree fairly harmless, Iran in a non issue compared to some of the other major threats. I'd let them do keep thinking they're getting some big boy britches until the need arises for a political scapegoat or taking him out coincides with a much larger goal in the region.

forget the social issues, we need jobs and we need them now, we need to get the us government out of the banking business, we need serious spending cuts, and we need to start paying down the massive debt.

I really think shutting down the border(s) is of utmost importance, for several reason. Among them, our national security, out of control spending for education and health-care (when it comes to illegals), and unemployment.

Second, the over-spending on social programs has got to stop, including Obama-care.

It won't happen, no matter who wins the election, but it's a nice pipe-dream.

There is plenty of low hanging fruit - but the politicians will talk a lot and nothing is going to happen.

I used to think this was crazy. Key words, "used to", might not be such a bad thing in the future. How much of the gulf coast oil would become Texas???

Oil, natural gas, lots of fortune 500 HQs, tech industry, a major port, oil refineries, I think we would be doing well.

Texas won't secede. I used to buy into this fantasy and then started to run the webs of problems and what would ultimately happen. Now, if WWIII started, the US fractured and enough people survived, then I could see it. But Texas hasn't done shit to solidify the southern border and won't do anything to create borders on the rest of the state.

Great for movies, poor in reality.

The economy, national debt, and war(s) will be the largest factors in that order for the next election.

Thought I was the only one who thought this based on some past threads. Glad there are other level headed people out there.

The white raaaaaacists not wanting a Black President will be the issue of the next election.
