  • Started wondering about something this am...

Does anyone have any statistics on the number of people receiving a check from the gubmint as their primary/only source of income?

Then I'm looking for the number of people at the poverty level that are receiving food stamps or other supplements to their income, including section 8 housing.

I want to see those numbers in comparison to our census....and what states those people live in.

    discuss.....

I can't remember exactly but i had read a while back that something like 40% of people were getting a check. That is welfare, social security, military, working for the government and anyone retired or disabled all rolled in together. IE, the net drain on the economy.

This thread reminds me of a person I work with. Working and speaking to him you would be led to believe they would never take a handout. Always bashing Obama, constantly bithing about welfare/lazy people, ect... But he knows every loop hole about how to get everything for free and is 100% disabled from the military for complete bullshit. Just goes to show you "they" are everywhere and even the types of people you would never think would be like that.

Well you can't count actual government employees. Unless you are counting the ones that have no reason to exist. But, we do need a great many of them that are there. We have to have them to run the shit we want/need to happen. You also can't really count the military, cause obviously we need them. Unless you are just talking grand totals here, and are not trying to figure out how many are leeching.

If you are looking at it from the point of view of how much government payout drains the economy (rather than who is essential) then yes you should look at every one of them. I don't think a society where 40% get checks which are mostly funded by the top 20% can last for long.

Speaking of gubment checks, I got a refund to my income tax payment I sent in. I thought I took them to the cleaners, considering what I made, reported and deducted. They shot me back a check for almost $400.

Fucking A right, I cashed it and went to Rent-A-Tire!!!

Only about half the people of working age in this country actually pay income tax.

Right. This is exactly why a national sales tax would be more effective. Now, I didn't say it was the answers to all of our problems, but it would be more effective.

Funny. I thought I took them to the cleaners too and ended up getting an EXTRA $550 back due to a missed deduction? So I went and bought a .44 Magnum revolver!

Yeah, this system is unsustainable. 5 years maybe till it all collapses. In the mean time, I am going to collect land, firearms and ammo.

That a boy! Remember, property out of a 15 megaton Castle Bravo explosion zone from a major city and land with soil that has a proven ag record... but you're from A&M, so that is probably a given for you.

actually, Bryan/CS is a primary target given all the research programs centered here at the university. It will all be over before I hear about it anyway.

I do have my eye on a piece of property south of town, but can't get the bank to foreclose on it yet so I can find funding to buy it for $.40 on the dollar.

I really hate those fuckers. They turned me down on my hearing loss disability..big deal I don't need a hand out, but then they only hand friends of mine who are seriously fucked up from Iraq or general military attrition 50% disability at times. While some candy asses prod and pry at the VA until they get 100% just because this or that. I understand if you got fucked serving your country, veterans are the only group that deserve some form of social welfare for their lives imo but don't abuse the system. /rant

would we be better off if we just cut those people off? there are not enough jobs in this country for those that want to work, let alone those who live off the government's tit.

A dead cut-off would cause anarchy. Godzilla marching through Los Angeles would cause less havoc than that monthly gubment check not being in the mailbox come the first of the month.

You're damn right we would be better off.

Here's an idea, let the local communities take care of their own. It is not the government's job to make sure you are fed. If the locals took in donations and only handed out to the ones that need the help (not obvious crackheads who can buck a computer based system), then attrition would eventually take out the bad seeds. If noone feeds the crackheads, then the crackheads can't live.

Churches have been doing this for a long time. If we were to get rid of the welfare programs and allowed people to voluntarily donate their hard earned money, then we would all wind up with more money in our pockets.
