The argument could be made that YOU are forcing your beliefs down their throat, by not allowing them any recognition, any rights, etc. And it's all based on your Religious beliefs. Gays simply provide an easy target for ridicule among those so inclined, and some may need to feel justified to do so by their own interpretation of their professed religious beliefs. Doesn't make their interpretation right by any means, and no true believer in God stigmatizes anyone. Is it considered a sin by many religions? Yes, and so are many other things.

No, I posted that many peoples stance on religion or God have nothing to do with their stigmatizing gays. I said nothing regarding gay marriage, and stigmatizing goes far beyond simply being opposed or not to marraige.

In many cases it has nothing to do with religion. The reasons people stigmatize gays can be varied; they may be uncomfortable around them and crack jokes to ease their own distress, they may want someone to look down on so their own miserable lives seem better, or they may just not know how and when to mind their own business.

I agree with you that a religious angle is often used in opposition to gay marriage and to a lesser extent gay lifestyles, but all religious folk certainly don't hold a monopoly on intolerance.

There was a sort of norm, and the gays felt the need to break that norm and go against it and demand special privileges and rights that were not previously allocated. So who is trying to change who.
