If this country was put on EXTREME lockdown, like 1984-type stuff, it would probably cut way back on terrorist attacks too (at first). But do you think that the opposition would bother to talk about how many attacks had been potentially prevented? That is an extreme example, but maybe that will get you to see what I am saying. I understand where you're coming from, I just don't see why you are trying to use a terrible means to justify an end. "Well it's worked so far" is never a good reason to do anything that infringes on liberties.
