i have kids and they go in and out the door alot, if i fired on a person that didnt knock first, id have dead kids, and freinds. You should always make sure before ya shoot. if a op doesnt need to knock, doesnt mean he burst thru door...he may also just walk in.. i seen that before also..however, if a cop breaks my door down, he is acting like a perp would, and would more than likley get a different response..

I maybe wrong, but I'd think confusion of the homeowner would generally be a plus for the cops taking down truly bad people. So, all the posts about blowing the cop's head off - I mean, unless you're up at the right time or 24x7 patrolling your home... They will have more shooters, (if you shoot one, I'd count on one of them shooting you), practice a lot more then most homeowners and generally will have the upper hand.
The confusion of the homeowner doesn't apply to people who are get a warrant to come bust their door down. They're going to know that they're in legal trouble, or at least be expecting that legal trouble could occur at any time. A homeowner is only going to be confused when they know they've done nothing wrong and there is no reason for the cops to be bustin up in their house.
