This guy says some really loony shit.

Ron Paul: I Would Not Have Ordered Bin Laden Raid

Rep. Ron Paul speaks during a news conference at his newly opened Iowa campaign office May 10 in Ankeny, Iowa.

Rep. Ron Paul, a soon-to-be presidential candidate known for opposing U.S. military intervention overseas, said if he were president, he would not have duplicated President Obama's plan for taking out the man responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Paul plans to announce his candidacy Friday in New Hampshire, two sources told Fox News. Ahead of that announcement, he suggested in a radio interview Tuesday that the U.S. government could have worked with Pakistan to secure Usama bin Laden's capture instead of unilaterally entering the country and killing him -- despite concerns that the Pakistanis could have tipped him off.

"It was absolutely not necessary," Paul said of the May 1 CIA-led Navy SEALs raid.

The Texas congressman questioned whether Obama could have gotten away with the operation if Usama bin Laden had been in a country other than Pakistan.

"What if he had been in a hotel in London?" Paul said on Newsradio 1040 WHO. "So would we have sent the ... helicopters into London because they were afraid the information would get out? No, you don't want to do that."

Paul said the United States should have gone after bin Laden the same way it went after Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, architect of the Sept. 11 attacks, by working with the Pakistan government.

"They arrested him, actually, and turned him over to us," Paul said, suggesting the same formula should have applied to bin Laden.

Though Paul is credited by some with inspiring the Tea Party movement, one faction of that movement was not happy with the comment.

"If there is any doubt that Ron Paul should not even get near the Oval Office, even on a tour of the White House, he has just revealed it," Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips said on his website. "For a Congressman to say the raid to kill the man who is one of the greatest mass murderers of Americans in history was, 'not necessary,' is simply nuts."

Other potential GOP candidates have expressed support for the way Obama handled the bin Laden operation. Asked about Paul's comments, an aide to businessman and potential candidate Herman Cain reiterated that sentiment.

"Mr. Cain believes that bringing Usama bin Laden to justice was absolutely the right thing to do," spokeswoman Ellen Carmichael said.

Paul, who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2008, is expected to make his candidacy announcement Friday in New Hampshire, site of the first-in-the-nation presidential primary. He has already started a presidential exploratory committee, opened an office in Iowa and raised more than $1 million online last week on the day of the first Republican presidential debate, hosted by Fox News and the South Carolina Republican Party.

Pakistani officials, while saying the death of bin Laden is a positive development, have decried the U.S. raid as a violation of their sovereignty. Obama officials have staunchly defended the mission.

Paul has used the death of bin Laden to renew his push to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Paul also wants to drastically reduce the U.S. military presence around the world.

One of the many reasons he just isn't Presidential material....

For years (on this board) I've stated many times that I like a lot of Pauls idea's. I also have huge problems with others. If it's Ron Paul vs. Barry Soetoro, Paul gets my vote.

I still don't understand why we couldn't arrest OBL. He was unarmed. I'm kind of with Dr. Paul on this one.

So some scumbag attorney can defend him and give him American rights and waste our time and money on a trial? Fuck that. He is an enemy of the state, he was worth more to us dead than alive.

Based on what RP knows that may not sound so crazy to him. I'd be willing to bet Obama know quite a bit more about the intelligence situation in pakistan and has proof they were in bed with osama. That option was probably way done on the list of things to do. That being said with RP, or anyone for that matter, you get the good with the bad and I happen to think the good far out weighs the bad. People in this country want their cake and they want to eat it too. In other words, they'll listen to any shithead in a suit talk about low taxes, strong military, and freedom. But as soon as someone who actually might give a fuck speaks up with a half a dose of reality they brand them as an idiot or maniac.

knowing what we know now its easy to make that call, but based on the info that was provided it was clearly a risky call. RP says based on the info he would have done it differently, its an honest answer, and given the risks involved you cant say that it would be less wise.

Have you guys really looked at the pics of the scene? The blood is spilled on a prayer mat with no splatter higher than an inch or two above the side of the bed from the floor. The puddle was also blocked from the length of the carpet (going off to the side.

He was proned and praying when he was off'd. I have yet to see anyone report it that way, but that's how I see it.

Paul seems to be an isolationist. He wants to cut all foreign aid, and just worry about our country. Not try to police the world. In his mind; fuck all them. Let them all kill each other, just defend our borders. Which I agree with. His idea is probly that if we pulled out of there and just let all those terrorists do whatever the fuck they want over there, they'd probly leave us alone. Which is probably true. Or at least it was at one time. Now they hate us, but I'm sure they used to not give two shits about us until we started meddling. I'm sure paul wants to return to that. IMO he's got the right idea, I'm just not sure if it would work. Seeing as how they now want revenge. But, its going to have to stop sometime, so why not just start the end now.

Personally, I wouldn't care if he was taking a dump. But...if all these questions surrounded Bush under the same circumstances, there would be blood in the streets...OUR streets.

I think a big part of this discussion lies in the sub-discussion of the legitimacy of the complaints of muslim terrorists. Granted, it goes without saying that their choice of tactics invalidates any moral high ground in their political positions, but I think an analysis of our foreign policy is in order. We seem to have a pathological inability to decide whether we want to be a real empire, or simply the world's volunteer police force. If we want to be a real empire, we'd best start acting like one, and start taxing the shit out of the people we conquer. If we don't want that, and we keep policing the world, we'll keep pissing people off for meddling, get drawn into unending brush-fire wars, and be on the hook for the bill, and all for no damn reason.

While I agree that it would have been nice to watch his dumbass sit in an isolation cell for the rest of his life, killing him was the only option imo. If we had captured him, every Al Qaeda member would have pulled some hostage/terrorist move to try and get OBL released...and since we don't negotiate with terrorists. Some may disagree and say "we shouldn't live in fear of the what-ifs", but let's be honest...that is how we are operating now. Killing him for retribution and/or securing the death of the snake's head was the only option. I can respect your opinion, I just disagree with it.
