we can't pay teachers, and if the feds leave, so does every single piece of military equipment and personnel they fund...............exactly 46 minutes later we would become mexico.

Actually, we could. Do you know how much oil Texas is sitting on? Natural gas and other resources? Military leaves and the governor activates the state militia. Teachers have their salary renegotiated without unions and students actually get qualified teachers who care about teaching.

Well, sounds like with the surplus of funds we have, perry is probably already putting things in place for this? If not there might be a time lapse problem that might make us just a touch vulnerable.....

I really don't think we'd be vulnerable. Do you think our state armories are empty? Our national guard armories? Do you think that the militia (men between the ages of 18 and 50) do not have their own equipment and weapons? Do you also believe our allies such as Az and Ok do not have our back?

Why do you see the federal government as the only government? States actually have more power and more responsibility than the federal government

No, the last time the common people fought against an organized government here was the American Revolution and we won. The civil war had politiicans trying to gain ground and concessions. American Revolution was interested in kicking the enemy off the soil and that was it. That is what this would be. Drive them from our borders and hold the borders.

And perhaps you forget how far we did get with the Civil War.

One of what? Someone with knowledge of history AND a combat infantry background? Someone who understands tactics and that 1) our troops CANNOT be used against Americans, or 2) that any troops that would be following an order to attack Texans would be facing an equally armed, equally trained force in their own backyard?

And we need them for what? Is Mexico going to attack with tanks and aircraft?

It is in a deficit because of a lack of revenue. Unlike California and Illinois who are not only in a deficit situation but have also borrowed so much that their bonds have shit for credit.

The state government will cut the fuck out of spending to close the deficit. Some people will cry all over the TV but after that you won't hear anything else about it. And you sure won't have a bunch of crybaby liberal pussies acting like the world is going to end.

Well really it was more like Virginia and Robert E. Lee vs the Union with an insurgency in Mississippi. The confederate states as a whole never really organized. Most of them were more concerned with protecting their homes than trying to defeat the North. The entire effort was planned based on getting support from England and France, neither of which happened.

The Union's official goal was to preserve the union, which they did. The Confederacy's goal was to boot the Union troops out of their land and maintain state's rights, including slavery. They were both partially successful. After the reconstruction though the Northern Union states obviously had the upper hand and still do today for the most part.

I'm wondering if there's a logical explanation for your ignorance. You're either a clueless teenager or a welfare baby.

It is funny that you automatically think that since I am a "newb" on here that I must be a "newb" at life. I understand that it is our tax money that pays for the program. My question was just pointing out how Rick Perry is always changing his view on what the Big Government is responsible for. Now if people like you would just pull your fucking head out of your ass and think for you self instead of following other ignorant idiots blindly based on party loyalty perhaps then we could solve some real issues.

I am not a big Perry supporter, but he's not "always changing his view". He's fighting for Texas right now, because DC and uncle Barry have pretty much declared war on our state. "Taxation without representation" is starting to come to mind. They use our state like a gigantic freeway on-ramp for all the transportation/shipping from Mexico to the rest of the country. You ever travel I35 south? From Laredo to Dallas has been "under construction" for 40 years. Keep in mind, Texas has had 3 republican governors in the last 140 years, and we've done pretty damn well under all 3.
