  • Drug Smuggling Dukes of Hazzard Style!

    http://www.yumasun.com/news/border-6...ence-ramp.html

Half a million dollars worth of marijuana was seized from smugglers who used a portable truck ramp to illegally enter the U.S. from Mexico early Thursday morning.

Border Patrol agents assigned to Yuma Station were patrolling near the southern most end of Foothills Boulevard and the international boundary on the Barry M. Goldwater Range just before dawn when they encountered a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driving northbound from the fence at a high rate of speed.

“The hours of darkness are always more busy than during the daylight,” said Kenneth Quillin, supervisory Border Patrol agent for the Yuma Sector Communications Division.

Agents attempted to initiate a vehicle stop when the vehicle suddenly changed directions and headed back toward Mexico. The vehicle's occupants abandoned the vehicle in the U.S. and fled to Mexico.

“Where they returned back south is where the fence is up against a natural barrier - a mountain range - and they went around the fence,” Quillin said.

Inside the SUV, agents discovered 1,000 pounds of marijuana.

The Cherokee had entered the United States over a large ramp placed over the fence to create a portable bridge. The fence is about 12 feet tall.

“The ramp truck - the front part folds over the top of the fence so the (Cherokee) travels across the rails and the front part actually touches the ground on the other side. It actually travels up over the top,” Quillin explained.

The homemade truck ramp was crafted by smugglers, Quillin added. “They made it themselves.”

The ramp has been seized by Mexican officials. The marijuana was seized and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the vehicle was seized by Border Patrol.

The Yuma Sector Border Patrol said as a result of its efforts to disrupt and deny transnational criminal organizations from operating with impunity, smuggling organizations often abandon their narcotics rather than risk being caught and facing prosecution.

The Yuma Sector Border Patrol asks the public to report suspicious activity along the border by calling 1-866-999-8727

    it's an unstoppable force.
one time this old white guy trucker in jail told me a story I'll never forget.
This guy was headed off to server 7 years FED, so nearly day for day til release.
    happy as can be.
he said you can never stop this shit, and here's why:
he says he made 7 trips from mexico to chicago before he got caught.
all he had to do was meet up with the smuggerlers across the border already and they would load up the cars on his trailers with 1000's of pounds of weed.
Then he would do the norm, take back roads, avoid the scales until his destination.
He made over 150 K per trip.
So he claimed to have nearly a million dollars waiting for him when he gets out , all stashed away. That he would never have been able to make that money legit basically.
He paid off his exwife like 50K to shut her hole up about the money.

dude was happy..... it was funny to be honest. Especially since he's right, and that's the cheap drugs - just weed.
you can't win this thing, impossible

Well, we could secure the borders, but you're still right. Cause that will never happen.

Sounds efficient. I always thought the guys who rented out industrial buildings along the border and tunnelled to Mexico were pretty smart. There is a little area down by San Diego called Otay Mesa where you can rent a warehouse that is a couple hundred feet from the fence. These guys would go in, jackhammer the slab and tunnel under the building, then the fence to Mexico and start bringing in the goods.

I think my favorite has to be when they were using RC airplanes. They would load them up with drugs in Mexico, fly them over the fence, and a guy on the other end would unload it, and put the cash in the plane.

securing the borders is also impossible from a logistical standpoint.
I'm for it, but I admit it's never going to happen for a shit load of reasons.

now if they would focus on making sure those that come here illegally get zero benefits and difficult to impossible to find work , that would probably be ten times more effective as a deterant.
fix the cause, not the effect

That is a good idea. I always thought a trebuchet would be another great idea...

No doubt you could get a lot of dope over the fence with one launch, but I think it would be a lot easier to catch the receivers on the US side. Border Patrol might notice a 12 foot trebuchet being set up in Mexico.....

But on second thought they don't do shit anyway so the cartels could probably get away with it.

Well no security system is absolute, but you could certainly put a big squeeze on all of it. You could make it so hard that most people just simply wouldn't bother, and those that did went to such trouble that it ended up costing the people that want to buy weed about $1000 an ounce.

Well I'm glad we've spent so much money on this necessary war on drugs. It's obviously been put to good use.

Right. $1000 an ounce.....for Mexican weed. There's better quality grown here, legally. It's simply demand created by prohibition.

It's a good thing we have all these laws to protect us from ourselves, and we spend countless public funds to catch pot dealers.

                          Unbelieveable.

Oh I don't really care about the pot itself. I don't think I've seen any evidence to ban it. I mean it has its drawbacks just like any drug but hey, whatever floats your boat I guess. I'm just saying that if the government ever chose to stop being incompetent, they could make it very difficult for just the average joe to be able to afford (and thus obtain) weed. Or cocain. Or whatever. I mean just look at what they do to ammo. They know that they'll never really ever get to ban guns without being killed, so they just use their little tactics like taxing the piss out of ammo so less people will get involved in the gun hobby, and those that already are are less likely to participate in it.
