Information on how the residents of Texas have voted in presidential elections. Includes trends and polls for the 2024 election, as well as a Texas voting history and narrative.
From 1872 through 1976, Texas went Democratic in the vast majority of elections. However, that changed in 1980, and Texas has sided with the Republicans ever since. Having a Bush on the ticket each election from 1980 through 2004 (except 1996) helped make Texas a reliably “red” state. In 2008, John McCain won the state by a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent over Barack Obama.
Yeah, back when Democrats were the conservatives...
My dad still thinks Democrats care about the working people and Republicans just want to screw you over. He's almost 90 and is a life long Texan, he's not changing his mind.
In reality Democrats care about non working people that can vote and Republicans care about tax payers.

It sounds like your dad is an FDR democrat. It was a different time, and the party has left your dad. He just may not know it.

The last time a Democrat carried Texas in a presidential election was 1976.
Uh... I hope you guys realize Obama's actual quote in the story is "If what you're telling me is that Texas is a conservative state, you're absolutely right."
When the government pays, the government controls.

Of course I do. My point is that when it comes to state politics, Texans historically vote for democratic governors, but won't vote for a radical lefty. "conservative" is a relative term, especially coming from a socialist.
FDR was pure genius to getting the masses feel the need for big government. So many older folks I've talked to actually thought he was going to move the middle class to the next level (which they were right, but not the way they thought). That term was the real boom for big government.

You should take his ability to vote away.
And anyone that thinks the democrats OR republicans are for anyone other than themselves or anything other than growing government and control isn't paying attention.

I have actually grown up around a lot of these. It is how I got interested in politics. As a kid I would listen to them, research, and then be puzzled when I found that their political affiliations were not representative of their beliefs.

I do realize that. I watched the interview when it was on TV.

We are going to get butt-fucked either way, I'm just hoping to get butt-fucked by the lesser of the two evils.
