I've had a BBQ Guru controller, a stainless cap that's closed on top so I can cook in the rain and I've added some asbestos tape to seal the ash catcher better.
For me it works great but I'm only doing 1 brisket or shoulder at a time. There are other rack systems where you can do a lot more but I've never needed to. I do use the top rack sometimes to smoke a bologna, sausage or some beans.

I have one and love it... most of them will all be the same prices but the addons that certain dealers throw in can be better than others. I'd check out ceramic grill store near Denton as they have some unique accessories that are better than the BGE stuff IMO that they will substitute for the BGE bundles at the same prices. Go with the XL, you'll regret anything smaller and it's not bad at all on charcoal, still uses very little.
Edit to add I got mine at Premier Grilling before I knew about ceramic grill store. I think all in I was around $1200 for the XL with stand, side tables, ash tool, Eggnitor (heat gun), plate setter, and a bag of charcoal.Originally posted by stevoNot a good idea to go Tim 'The Toolman' Taylor on the power phallus.

I've had a BGE for years, if I was going to do it again I would look into the Primo, being an oval is a much better shape for things like ribs or a big brisket. It also makes it where you can put a divider in and keep all your coals on one side to have a hot and cool side. I can attest to the quality on the BGE, mine is 9-10 years old, never been covered and always sat outside, just refinish the handle every few years and it is good to go. The green is starting to come off around the bottom vent, but that doesn't affect how it cooks.
Personally I'm a pellet grill convert now and haven't hardly used my BGE in the last 3 years.Last edited by GrayStangGT; 09-23-2019, 06:56 AM.

OK, Im freaking impressed. Smoked a whole chicken today . Wife said it was the best she's ever tasted... Steaks last night were great, pizza's on Friday were good. Its a little bit of a learning curve to moderate the temps.. Why the hell do I have a stove ?
