  • Restaurants in san Antonio

I'm taking the family down to san Antonio for the weekend and I'm trying to find somewhere real good to eat. I don't have any kind in particular but any idea would be helpful.

The Original Mexican Restaurant (catchy name, huh?) is still pretty good for TexMex. It's right on the River Walk near the Hyatt. There's also a really good Italian place right off the River Walk, not too far from there, but I can't remember the name, nor find it on Google. I remember walking up stairs to get to street level, and there was this tired looking building right there, kind of grayish colored. Turned out to be some very good Italian.

Depends, you really can't go wrong with most TexMex places down there. My favorite in the order of authentic and semi-safe*.

Jacala's on West Avenue, best food and best prices on alcohol too. I've been going for 20yrs., never had a bad experience. It's in a neighborhood and used to be an old house, but trust me you will be hooked. www.jacala.com

Pico De Gallo on Commerce and I-10 near downtown, authentic aguas frescas in glass Mexican jugs lets you know its authentic. They also have a AYE during lunch, I didn't try that, but people in my party did and they were OK with it.

Casa Del Rio on the Riverwalk, the best out of the Riverwalk tex-mex IMO. Great chili con carne. Some might argue that Mi Tierra is the best, but its hard to get in and their food isn't what it used to be and expensive.

Taqueria Chapala Jalisco on 1819 McCullough Ave, you pull up and think, this used to be a Pizza Hut/Inn and you're right, but its good, like real good and very affordable, you know its good because there are no white people, lol.

I was down there a few weeks ago. Mi Tierra was ok, but seems to have fallen quality wise since my last visit.

Yup, the bakery is still worth stopping in for some fresh pan dulce.

Then you are real close to Jacalas, just head towards downtown on Fredricksburg and when you get to the HEB on the left, wiggle through to West ave. and Jacalas is right there. I stay at that Embassy right there at 10 &410, unless its just the wife and the and I then we hit up the Westin on the Riverwalk.
