  • My New Egg

Last year I bought a Big Green Egg. Prior to buying it everyone told me to get an XL. Well I should've listened to them, because one year later, my large egg is sold and the XL is ready to go!

Assembled everything last night and around midnight, the meat was ready to come off. This is by far the best smoker/grill whatever I've ever had the pleasure if using. The moisture that remains in the food is nothing short of amazing. I will be purchasing another small or medium to take camping and to be mobile. So here are the pics...

Big Mama. (We cooked all the food below at the same time. There was still enough room for 2-3 more chickens or a couple racks of ribs. VERY happy I have additional room now and look forward to lots of cooking!

    Boneless Pork Shoulder

    Shiner Chicken

    Our special Proprietary Porkloin lol

The whole lot of it. The chicken, 2 pork loins, pork shoulder, 2 Boudain, 3 potatoes and 3 corn.

Man that looks awesome. I've been thinking about going the same route with my next grill but maybe not that brand.

I can't speak to the Kamado or Primo's but my egg has sold several people in buying their own. In fact, it was a close friend that bought my large that I had.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?

I haven't had any personal experience with any of them but I've read and seen a bunch of videos on them and I'm wanting to try one out. Never really spent much time cooking with charcoal as gas has always been more convenient for me. But I'm sold on the concept. Probably be later in the summer when I buy one.

PM sent on the price story.

If you wait till the end of the summer, you'll wish you had bought it last year.

No shit, don't wait Jose! I got the Vison kamado at Costco last year and love it. My boss has a BGE and read a bunch of reviews comparing the 2, and suggested i get the Vision from Costco because it was about half the price of a large BGE. Either route, get ya one!

^^^ These ceramic type cookers are the only way to cook - anything. I've even done cookies and pizzas on mine.

I love cooking on my egg. If I had to buy again though I would give some serious thought to the oval Primo. I think an oval would be much more conducive to cooking different things at once then the round ones are.

Tested a couple rib recipes on mine last night, both came out good.

You really can cook just about anything. It's an oven, grill, smoker, etc. BGE has adapted something from a company I represent on the commercial side of the business with the engineered ceramics. And believe it or not, it all came from crematoriums.

I'm too traditional to get over the mental block of this not being a real smoker. That said, people love them, and the ease of consistent temps make them attractive to a lot of people. I'll probably buy one anyways, I just don't know how much use it will see as a smoker .

It is weird because they appear to keep the moisture in better then a traditional. I have had the big ass wood smoker, a Cajun electric smoker, and now this thing. It really does a great job at everything and just works. I haven't fired off my propane grill in probably a year. Be sure and get the electric starter. It works fantastic.

Meh. If you're drying meat out, you're doing it wrong.

I use a small propane torch to light mine . It's up to temp and ready to go in minutes.
