Sent them an email, they have everything done already. If they could make a simple thermometer for 75-150 that is weatherproof - DONE! (Obviously 802.11 capable too)

Thanks for the find, curious if they are game. They'd sell like crazy with the backyard smoker/griller like most of us.

This is the response I got (quick)...

Chris, This is a project we are tossing around. We have not begun any development of this yet. I agree with you that it would be a great seller!

Well, I was going to buy a smoker this weekend to make momma some brisket for mother's day, but this thread has proven me extremely ill-prepared on time and funds. Good info, though. I'll have to add a smoker to the list of things to search for on c/l.

Search for that Alton Brown (sp???) thread, where he made a smoker for $45. Uses a big clay flower pot, seriously!

                Here's a similar setup.

A year later and I'm still loving the one I got from home depot. I've got a brisket on there right now actually. As stated before, I thought it was all I would need size wise but I've come to the conclusion that eventually I'm going to have to buy a bigger heavier (THICKER) smoker, and that it will cost over $1k I'm sure. I'm torn though... I wouldn't mind having one on a trailer but have no where to keep it and wouldn't want to have to go get it every time I want to use it. But it would be nice to have when going to the lake house or something.

Ideally I will just get a bigger better one for the back yard and take this one to the lake house and be done with it. But who knows, I might just stick with what I have for the next few years till I burn through the firebox on it.

I have been throwing the idea of a smoker around, but something for very occasional use. And to be honest, would probably be used more for chicken and ribs than brisket (I am not a big fan of it). The delimma is that I still want a gas option, and wouldn't mind charcoal ability too. Reasoning it that for salmon, burgers, dogs and such, I would want gas. For steaks I wouldn't mind being able to use charcoal to get the high temps. Then smoker as mentioned above.

                    I really don't want 3 seperate grills, and don't need a $450 multi thing.

I was thinking about getting this:
                    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Char-Griller-3001-Grillin-800-BTU-Grill/dp/B001H9RPNI/ref=sr_1_75?ie=UTF8&qid=1399657036&sr=8-75&keywords=char-broil+gas+grill[/ame]

                    and adding this:
                    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Char-Griller-2-2424-Table-Charcoal-Grill/dp/B003HFFVJK/ref=pd_sim_lg_6?ie=UTF8&refRID=0J0E2KZGS6ZMQYYN7SA Q[/ame]

So I can use the gas grill primarily, use it as a smoker when wanted, or use the "firebox" piece only for charcoal grilling.

                    Thoughts?

I was thinking along those lines when I bought my smoker... I used to grill ALL the time, 3-5 times a week on my gas grill. I ran out of gas last spring and haven't refilled it. I just use the smoker to grill in the firebox.

The few reviews on their site are pretty bad.. Paint pealing after first use, rust, etc. Has he had any issues like that? Those have me a bit worried.

I cant say, I dont see any real big issues with his, but I havent really looked for any.

I will say that my new braunfels smoker lost its paint immediately.
