Half cow purchase?

I split a cow a few years back with a friend. I have no idea where he bought it from, but it was great, and cheap $3ish per lb.

Anyways, anyone know where (local to dfw) to buy a cow, or half cow?

You can usualy buy half of beef directly from a shop.

You can buy one direct from a packer, if you want to, or you can go to a sale, and buy a 400-500lb bull calf, and have it slaughtered and processed there, if that sale barn does that. Getting a bull calf before it gets snipped and sent to the feedlot is a great way to get grass-fed beef on the cheap.

Pigs are good too. Every year at the State Fair my father in law gets a cow and a pig and splits it up for the family. Good eating. Fresh bacon rocks.

If you're serious about wanting to split a cow or calf, I've got a good friend that ranches for a living. He does this quite often. I've been waiting to do our yearly beef buy until I could find someone to split a side with.
