        I use the beer can method on turkeys. I substitute a beer can for a chunky soup can however.

        I only have a gas grill so I improvise but I've had much success smoking ribs, brisket etc. However nothing replaces the real deal but this has worked for me.

        I cook on indirect heat and have two empty dole pineapple juice cans that I fill with soaked hickory chunks and place directly on the outside grills.
        It takes about 4 - 5 hours.

          If you go this route, the 32 oz cans of Foster's work perfectly.

            I can't believe I've never thought of that before. I've always just improvised with the soup can. I'll be getting a can of fosters. Thanks for the tip.
