Man, I could not have been more unimpressed with Casino El Camino. I've had a lot of people rave to me about that place, and both times I've been were wholly mediocre.
I can't see how, I've been a handful of times, and the burgers are fucking stellar!

I've been 5 or 6 times, and it's been excellent every time.

Preston and Forrest, and one in Allen. Those are the only ones open so far

We usually ate at the Southern one near Stasney/35, but I've always liked Trudy's food for a large scale restaurant.

I never said it was the best. But it's the best fitting his criteria. Open for lunch, on 6th, etc.

People that criticize my recommendations or reviews, usually don't have a fucking clue what good food is. See the Mexican food in FTW thread. I can't recall who it was (it wasn't the OP), was arguing with me that Joe T's is actually good food. It's inedible slop, IMO. He went and tried the place I told him to, and loved it.

I can't blame him. I grew up with a lot of people like him, who grew up in houses where processed boxed meals were a normal thing (hamburger helper, etc), salt and pepper were the only "spices" used, and steaks were cooked to a near jerky consistency. It's not their fault, it's their parents. I was very fortunate to grow up with a parent that loved to cook, loved to be creative, and knew his way around a spice cabinet. Food is my favorite thing on earth, next to pussy and whiskey, and I want people to experience food the same way I do, which is why I'm so vocal about what is good, and what is beyond terrible.

Subscribing, I'll be in Austin for a week starting August 5th and I'm planning on hitting up a few of these places.

Anyone been to Louie Mueller BBQ in Taylor, Tx? My brother said it's worth the trip over there if you're down that way.

I haven't. Jackalope has good burgers, pizzas, and hot dogs. I haven't had any of the sandwiches. Casino el Camino has great burgers. There's a BADASS place downtown, for white tablecloth bbq, called Lambert's Downtown BBQ. Pricey, but I highly recommend. And don't be jewish on the sides and dessert. They are incredible.

No, you can't. It should go without saying that the hill country has the best barbecue BY FAR in the state. Lockhart and Luling have good barbecue, and probably the best selection of barbecue per capita, but the best is in Austin. Check out the highest-rated restaurants on this website:

                              2-Austin
                              1-Taylor
                              1-Bryan

Of course, these are just opinions. I grew up 15 minutes from Lockhart and ate there and Luling often. I just don't get a lot of the hype, especially Black's BBQ. I've never been impressed by their food.

                                Oh, and back on topic...

Trudy's is really good for "chain" Tex-Mex, and the drinks are good. There is a location by the campus that Vertnut mentioned.

El Arroyo on 5th just before the loop. Most of the food is pretty "meh," but the burgers are pretty good, chicken chipotle is amazing, and order the "ditch fries."

If you don't want to wait for Franklin's BBQ, stop by Vic's on Burleson Rd. if you have a few minutes, or Iron Works BBQ on 1st and Red River is closer and pretty decent (beef ribs have good flavor, but usually tough).

                                There's a Boiling Pot on 6th, about a block off of 35.

                                Ruth's Chris, Truluck's, etc are on/around 5th Street. $$$

Spaghetti Warehouse is down there in the warehouse district if you like it.

You can check out Maudie's on Lake Austin Blvd. Pretty decent.

Mangia's Pizza. It's trendy, but I've only been once and wasn't really a fan.
