Any suggestions on tortillas that taste like they're homemade or something you'd get in a restaurant? I'm not a huge fan of Mission tortillas and I'm ready to try something different.

Meh. Rosa's are fresh, but they are too thick for me. There's a tiny little Mexican meat market in Irving, and they have Igloo coolers of white corn tortillas, and flour tortillas. It's on O'Connor and Rochelle, and it's called La Carniceria Altena. The best I've found recently, for both. The flour is a thin tortilla, which I like. They are made fresh daily, but if you don't get there before 6 on a weekday, they will be out. And you need to be there by noonish on the weekend, or they will be out. They get something like 150 dozen of flour every day, and they sell like fucking hotcakes.

I'm pretty sure these are homemade. Possibly by the owner's wife. They used to be in a clear white bag with no labeling, but over the last month or so, they are now in labeled packaging (tortillas are still the exact same though). I *think* it started out as her making them at home in her kitchen, but has grown when they saw how quickly they were selling out. r

You are both wrong. Rosa's is nothing more than Taco Cabana tortillas to me, and I'm with Brent, they are too fucking thick and chewy.

Tortilleria la Sabrocita in Farmers Branch, I've been trying to tell you people about this place for years. Also best barbacoa I've found in North Texas.

LOL, I'm not wrong. He asked for a place that has fresh tortillas. I gave him one, and they are the best I've found. I didn't say they were the best ever, and he didn't ask for the best ever. He asked where to get fresh tortillas that taste homemade. My answer to that, is La Altena.

I'm not knocking Sabrocita, I've never been there, but I will say, I've never seen more fresh corn tortillas than La Altena. Even other places I've been to, that have "fresh daily" corn tortillas, they fall the fuck apart when you try to do something with them. I made 4 trays of enchiladas a while back, and not a single tortilla ripped. That's pretty fucking impressive.

If you are in a pinch, Wal-Mart has uncooked tortillas by the milk and cheese that taste decent. A lot better than mission.

Yeah I tried some of those and they're a little better but not by much. Biggest problem is I can't keep them from over cooking and getting crunchy, if they're not crunchy then they're chewy.

You guys might chuckle, but we have an HEB down here in Waxahachie that makes them by hand that you can buy so fresh that they're still hot. I eat the damn things while I'm walking through the store.

I've had those, and while they aren't too shabby, there are no HEBs up this way.

HEB fresh tortillas are pretty fucking good in a pinch, and if you go at the right time, you can get them fresh and warm.

And yes you can get them up here, at HEB Central Market. They have them in the bakery, there's a tortilla machine right next to the bakery.

For twice the price! lmao. I try to stay away from Central Market and Whole Foods unless it's something I know I can't get elsewhere.

If there's a Fiesta there you might try theirs. Although when I want corn, I go to the carniceria in The Colony to get them (and pre-marinated falda).

I always get the Southwest flavored ones from HEB.
