All I heard about when I moved up here almost 6 years ago was J.T.G. I went ONCE. The service was shit, and the food wasn't much better. The chick I was with asked for the fajitas to be cooked all the way, since she didn't want them bloody and neither of us had been there before. They came out burnt and the waitress said they always look like that when requested "well done." There was no serene atmosphere or rocking party vibe or whatever people always clamor about when they say you go for the atmosphere.

I think Uncle Julio's falls into the "good" category for Tex-Mex, and I like the salsa with all the roasted flavor.

I don't get it. Are you implying that it's all really weird "ethnic" food because he listed duck, ox eye and pork belly? The New Mexico Tampiquena is hands down the best skirt steak I've ever had (think un-cut fajita meat). They make the best salsa negra/chipotle sauce/adobo sauce that I've ever had also. It goes perfect on the Camarones a la Diabla, another dish I've had every time I've been there.

Fuck it, I don't know why I'm trying to convince people that don't seem to want to actually eat good food. I'm not saying go eat pork belly or cow's brains or some shit. Just go get the tampiquena, order the shrimp as an appetizer, sip on some good margaritas that are super-cheap for the setting ($10-$12 most), and have a good night.

I like both, fancy shit and tortilla/cheese/meat/vegetables kind.

You don't have to get out of your comfort zone, unless you're super cheap. I can be very cheap when I need to be, but I didn't feel bad at all paying a little extra after I tasted the food.

        Check out the menu:

I can't believe noone else has mentioned Cabo Grande. Great fajitas and awesome queso.

It was suggested, then I read why. ALL I get at mex places is cheese enchiladas. If the beans and rice are good that's a plus, as well as salsa. Joe Ts has good of all that, I don't care if I have to sit in the parking lot on a damn burro. Lol

Pappasittos has the best enchiladas I've had, but the beans aren't great, the rice is horrible and I don't like the salsa. Unclue Julios as u suggested is great imo as well. Just trying to find a new good place to go, as I'm burned out on the same ole 5 or so.

Ill try the steak at you suggest, but I'm not a huge adventurer in trying specialties. Ha

I've seen this place mentioned a few times on here. I guess I know where I'm having dinner.

You only get cheese enchiladas? That's what my 11 year old niece does too.

That's not what I order at every Mexican restaurant. I order it there because I know the quality is unbeaten, and 99% of "Mexican" restaurants don't have Any of that.

Even for Tex Mex those places suck. Joe T's on par with fucking Taco Hell. Nasty shit. Might as well eat dog food. Margaritas suck too! The ONLY thing they have worth a fuck is the patio.

Pappasito's is the same shit. And Uncle Julio's lacks a lot of flavor.

Jared - Mariano's is good, but it's not even in the same ballpark.

I can't say shit on that note because I always judge homestyle places by ordering their chicken fried steak.

Now it's all becoming clearer. You need to start a thread titled "best cheese enchiladas?." lol. There is supposed to be a stacked cheese enchilada with that dish, but good luck with that.

Seriously, I recommend the steak because it's the best I've had, and been consistently good over the 6 visits I've had. I'm sure that isn't as often as a lot of people have been there, but that shows me a lot of consistency between the prep chefs, grill guys, and kitchen managers that are serving it up. You can't go wrong with that dish. If you want your fajitas cut up for you already you can try the chipotle ones, they're awesome as well. If you're just a die-hard cheese enchilada lover, here's the first google hit for "ox eye enchiladas."

That's not out of the ordinary. When I first visit a new Tex-Mex place I usually get whatever the (3) enchilada plate is with one beef, one cheese, one chicken. That way, if the rest of the food is good, I know what to get on my second trip. If the rest isn't good, I just don't go back.

Ask for Felipe and get the chicken fajitas.

In your opinion. I'd much rather have Mariano's, personally.

I lied, I'm heading to Sherman to pick up some steaks. Maybe Friday or Saturday before I leave for vacation.

exactly... You and bcoop are some die hard food fanatics. Joe Ts has been my fav since I was a kid and to compare it to dog food doesn't comprehend in my brain. I'm hoping this place you guys love is bad ass, but I'm thinking we just have different tastes in food. I'm going to give it a shot Saturday!
