NOPE! After looking at the menu, I discovered they put beans in Chili... which makes it NOT Chili and discredits the whole fucking operation! FAIL.

My first thought is hard 8 because it's close to my work and it's a touristy type place but is there somewhere else toward FTW we should try
I've been to hard 8 a lot and would like to try something else

I've got nothing LOL! The one in Roanoke is up the street from my office but I don't go there often enough simply because I work from home. I might have to hit them up soon just for comparison.

Their brisket is several rungs above Hard 8. Good enough to where I forget to use their damn sauce that I also love. Don't care for Hard 8's sauce at all. Reminds me of Thanksgiving for some reason and it weirds me out.

I would be curious to know what the price per pound was. Last time I was in Lockhart, I bought about 5 pounds of brisket from Blacks BBQ for a little under $100 (somewhere south of $100 anyway) and I want to say it was selling for $16-18 a pound. It's been a while but it was some damn good brisket and it lasted a week with me giving some up to family and friends. It was still good microwaving it up a day later after being refrigerated.

I've only eaten at the Hard 8 in Stephenville (been a while) and more recently in Roanoke and it was good but not better than Pecan Lodge IMO. I don't care for BBQ sauce and would rather have it "bare" as I would rather have the taste of the brisket "naked" and not have anything covering it up. I get pissed when I order brisket and they put the sauce on it.

I agree, I think Pecan Lodge is above Hard 8. I'd like to stack it up to Black's or some of the other places in Lockhart. Roadtrip anyone???

That's the going rate for popular brisket these days. Mueller is $17 and Franklin is $19 (fancy Austin). Angelo's just went up to $13.25 and I think Railhead was $11 last weekend (regular Fort Worth). Blacks and Kreuz are a little under $14 (Lockhart)

Obviously Pecan Lodge has a little more in overhead costs than the others mentioned and people will pay for convenience. Franklin is making an absolute killing though.

Yeah, their brisket is money and ribs are less than a notch below...

I tried slow bone once and wasn't too impressed. I don't care for their rub at all.

Just got back from Pecan Lodge. About a 30-45 minute wait which was pretty good I thought for a Saturday. It was well worth it though. I ordered a two meat plate consisting of brisket and ribs with a side of fried okra. My nephew ordered the same with sausage instead of ribs and we split those up. Ribs were definitely better than the sausage.

The brisket was much better than I remember and I've gotta say, better than I remember Slow Bone being. The ribs were definitely second to the brisket, not quite as moist but definitely had more smoke. I had just missed out on burnt ends, I'll have to try those next time.

Lines are still crazy long. Walked over there on Saturday and stood in line for right at an hour and a half. Was worth it though. The new location is really nice. Also, they have an express line if you are ordering >5lbs of meat. The owner was there making sure everything was up to his standards. Super nice guy.
