  • The French Room

Finally I got a reservation at this place and am going on Friday to see what it is all about. I have eaten at most of the finer places in DFW, but never the French Room and I am definitely looking forward to it.

Anyone ever been? What are your favorite dishes?

Sorry dude. That's a bit much for me. I just have this feeling that the entire place will be filled with nothing but James William Bottomtooth types. Abacus and Mercury Grill are about as high falootin' as I'd ever wish to go. At least when I leave those places, I don't feel 14,000 psi of pompous asshole depressurization.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

Well then, I shall fit right in. I will even take the Rolls Royce.

But seriously, my building is right across from The Adolphus so I can walk there.

I used to go there quite a bit, but I have not been since I moved into my building a few weeks back.

Probably will get old fast. I have probably been to every place by your place. That italian place on main and field is good for a good quick bite to eat.

My company contracts with the Adolphus as they're one of our affiliate hotels our members use when traveling. I had the opportunity to eat dinner there about a year ago and it's one of the best meals I've had. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing as one can expect. It was a group of us from work and the chef created a special pre fixe menu highlighting some of the entrees. I remember having the little bit of ahi tuna, duck breast, and the filet. I tried some sort of caviar but that's an acquired taste as I didn't care for it. Luckily everything but our alcohol was picked up by the manager... but my liquor bill covered a typical nice night out to higher end restaurant. I'd definitely go back for a special occasion.

                      Excellent feedback.

I will definitely try the ahi tuni. One of my favorite dishes.

Spectacular dining experience. Among the best I have ever had.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, equipped with beautiful marble floors and spectacular chateauesque arches and paintings. Upon sitting down, the sommelier greets you with a wine list and is very knowledgeable about every type of wine featured. My father is a big wine guy so he asked the man a few questions about the list, but most of it sounded like Greek to me.

The first course was wonderful. I ordered lemon-butter poached maine lobster with sautéed ramps and slow roasted tomato confit, which was absolutely to die for. Another person had a crab cake with lemon grass lobster sauce, tomato jam, and mango curry which was one of the most interesting dishes I have ever had. Instead of any breading, a shrimp puree binds the cake together, giving it an odd but inspiring texture.

For the main course, I had duck breast, saffron-poached red pears, foie gras, duck confit, white chocolate parsnip puree, and natural jus. I am a sucker for duck, and this was some of the best I had ever had. The duck breast was amazingly tender and flavorful, and the foie gras was the best I have ever had. The confit was good, but left a bit to be desired. Anyways, you often hear people touting how you can "cut their steak with a fork", and this is certainly the case with the tenderloin served at the French Room. I quite literally sliced into a piece of the tenderloin with a fork, and it subsequently melted in my mouth. Never have I tasted a more tender cut of beef in all my life, and it almost made me regret ordering the duck.

For desert I ordered a white chololate souffle, which was baked to perfection. It had risen well above the souffle dish as a good one should, and was complimented by the creme and a mysterious glaze served in a small bowl on the platter.

The service was impeccable, and the waiter we had was extremely knowledgeable and friendly as he had worked there since the 1980s. Also a cool note, the hotel was built by Adolphus Busch, co-founder of Anheuser-Busch, and next year will be the 100th anniversary of the hotel. I would highly recommend a visit to the French Room to anyone who enjoys French food, as it was easily the most authentic French cuisine I have had outside of France.

You may like Toulouse on Knox if you want some nice French food without a reservation. It's not as high class as the French Room, but it's definitely a good place to eat.

My sister had her wedding reception at the Adolphus, it was pretty badass. The food sounds damn good, too bad I live in Houston now.
