I you like Moscato D'Asti then you should be looking at sweet Rieslings and Gewurztraminers.

Everyone likes Moscato, it goes down easy and is very sweet. Look at the alcohol content though, you could probably down an entire bottle by yourself and not even feel it.

I'd also suggest trying the eisweins, they are very popular around Christmas time. They do cost more than conventional wines since the grapes have to actually freeze before harvesting and a lot of the crop is lost.

Unless your palatte is develped enough to appreciate the differences though I'd go with the cheap stuff. Not trying to insult you but most people can't tell the difference between a $3 bottle of Oak Leaf Cabernet and a $100 bottle of Beringer. Well they can probably tell a difference but they won't appreciate one over the other. Everyone can tell a bad wine from a good one but most people can't tell a decent wine apart from a phenomenal one but they'll still pay the difference.

To take that a step further, buy a decanter. Seriously. Don't just open the bottle and let it breathe. Open the bottle, pour it in a decanter, and let it sit for a half hour. ESPECIALLY with your cheaper wines. They will taste MUCH better. It's amazing what a decanter does for cheap wine.

A decanter will make a big difference and help it breathe. Same thing when you are out to eat, have them open the bottle first thing so it can sit or even have them decant it for you if the taste is a little off.

Look around at some local wine specific shops. The Wine Cellar in the Shops at Starwood does a themed tasting every Thursday night that's free and catered by Tru Fire. Find a deal like that close by and it will really help out.

Also, get one of these little guys that has essentially all wine types preprogrammed with correct serving temperatures. Pop in a bottle of wine an hour or so before hand and let it get to proper temperature for serving. Keep it in there so it maintains it throughout the time you serve it and you're good to go. This guy just started chilling for later tonight.

Thank god it wasn't supposed to be cold, because it sure tasted like crap! I'm glad I let it sit out for a good while and tried it again, because that was a gagging experience.

I will run up to World Market and buy a decanter and once I get more into it I will look into the nifty perfect temp chiller.

Since the Chocovine has a red in it I assume I drink it room temp?

Try a shiraz if you dislike heavy reds (like cabs). Anyhing with heavy tannins give me headches like no tomorrow, but the shiraz is a lot easier to drink imho.

Become good friends with the bartender at a wine bar. Having a $5 - $20 bar tab when you've consumed $75 - $100 worth of wine is worth its weight in gold.

If you find that you like wine, I'd recommend getting a wine cellar of some sort. Although you won't find a decent one locally, you'll probably have to drop ship it. I bought one at Sam's that lasted like 2 years and ended up returning it when a fan died. I got this one from online and it's held the temperature steady since 2008.
