Jesus fuck that's outrageous. Do they think they are Central Market or something? Or has the "fad" grown so much that all the cool kids are doing it now?

Watch it get overfished, and they'll substitute farm raised as Copper River. Hell, I'll bet half of what's being sold as Copper River now is a substitute salmon.

You ever had it? There is no substitute. No way no how, anyone who has ever had the real thing would not notice the difference. It's a completely different fish. What you are implying just isn't possible with CR salmon, you know the season only lasts some shit like 3 weeks, so it's only available those 3 weeks out of the year, right? You can't reproduce that fish farm raised. Impossible.

Right on. Yeah, I've had it. The FDA is starting to crack down on substitute fish in the market, and I'm kind of pessimistic about high end seafood. I do wish a friend of mine was still guiding in Alaska. One year he gave me 200lbs. of frozen salmon that was caught by his clients that just wanted their pictures taken with big fish. He even guided David Petzel from Field & Stream, and that dude wouldn't even touch the fish he caught. Apparently he said, "I don't clean anything I catch or kill. That's a disgusting chore, and that's why I pay you. Fish are disgusting." Lolz.

Just a heads up for you other CR people. I picked up 10 lbs of CR salmon from Costco in Ft. Worth today for $8.99/lb. Not sure if they have any left, but for that price it's worth giving them a call.

how come fish farms can't design a special tank to breed salmon?

They are born in fresh water and live most of their lives in the ocean, it'd have to be a big tank. They are farmed but it's not a matter of raising them in a stock pond.

What makes the CR salmon so special is the specific river run they have to take. That's why it's so much more lean than the rest of the salmon. You can't recreate that on a farm.

I decided to check it out and picked up a filet for $9 a pound last night at Tom Thumb. Never seen such a deep red salmon.

                            Delicious.
